Hi Phil, The City and GCWA have been progressing your concerns since we met. I have since discussed this with our regulated parking department and can inform you that Wind and Kite surfers, along with other non-motorised craft users, will be able to use the rigging and de-rigging lanes for unloading and loading of equipment. This has been extended from a 15 minute to 20 minute, and will be signed as Loading Zones - Rigging and De-rigging only 20 minutes. We are in the process of reviewing the potential to trial a Cart Trailer/shared parking zone for non-motorised craft outside of peak times. There is no resolution on this as yet, however I will keep you up to date on findings. There is a lot to consider in that regard, including the amount of hardstand CT parks that are to be constructed for this stage. GCWA is undertaking a speed review within the Broadwater, which is not part of City of Gold Coast scope, however you can view online at:

Your supplied photo certainly highlights the diversity, popularity and significant numbers associated with all members of the public enjoying the waterways and foreshores, which is something the City and GCWA are constantly striving to manage equitably and safely for current and future generations.

Great work Phil, it is great that you have managed to get these guys thinking from the perspective of the non powered craft sharing the broadwater through your meetings.

As we have discussed I still think a no wash zone or an exclusion zone is a better solution than a 6 knot zone given the windsurfers make less wash at top speed than a small boat at 6 knots. This classification may get around the issues windsurfers and yachts would have with a speed limit.

What a stupid question they put to public, someone please get who thought up that question & put them on a sailboard, kite etc in 25 knot winds & a 4 knot current, now modulate your speed to 6 knots. Seriously is society getting dumber by the day?

Hey mark its still sailable. You can either park at the boat/fishing shop about 100m further south or sail up from kfc

Nice work Phil pretty loaded way to put that question accross. Most powered water users will have reacted to that. I still think making residents concerned with noisey boats aware of the increase In traffic.

E.g. With respect to noise pollution and safety, should powered craft observe a 6k speed limit in the broadwater
