Funny. I have been caught in this near zero wind at 2 PM on my sinking board with 5.8 and no up haul. I have been drifting from Shearwater up to Grand sitting on my board and waiting for wind to pick up
so I took an hour and half to wait for wind me to sail back eventually
Funny. People from near by high rise apartments were calling re drifting windsurfer !
My only worry was if current could spit me one the open sea before tide direction change

Wind can be a cruel mistress, as she was today.

watched again all day, just to see the ass fall out of the wind at 1pm, then it picked up and i raced down to SW afterwork, just as the wind was howling, then it rained as i rigging up, then nothing, 10 knts max

Oh Well, another day.

I am really getting the ****s with the rain we have been having. [}:)]

This is very possible. If you thought the current was strong at Shearwater you should see it closer to the seaway.

What to do if you don't have up haul ?
Just in case the wind will die again when sailing back to Shearwater I did
improvised up haul from my two harness lines joined together
If there is a bit of wind even sinking board could be up hauled , that sometimes better option then paddling to the nearest beach.

if you have light kit, you can just stand on your board and pull the sail out of the water by the mast. that's what i do with my big kit when i forget my uphaul.
