Totally smashed after an awesome sailing afternoon, cold winds evened out by blue warm waters, sorry no brown water, sand banks or giant Jellys here!
I'm sure I own the world speed record for Mooloolaba to Nth Shore after todays sessions.
i Phone GPS shows the gig, the blue bits represent, 0knts, falling off, doging, swearing ..... Totally over powered in the 25knt+ gusts and sailing at some decent speeds in the Ocean, feels like a NP Hellcat Promo!

As mentioned before NOT for beginers in the Westerly, it's actually pretty hard work 0-25knt on/off...the cotton tree end was super clean and windy, could get as far as the Twinwaters lifeguard towers before wind was too protected, may have been ok further off shore, quite choppy in parts..heading back to the spit was smoother and faster.

It only works a couple of times a year this spot, but next time its a 25knt W-SW forecast lock it in!

What sort of gear were you on?

109ltr JP Super Sport and stupidly a 7.7 raf slalom sail! Good thing about the sail was nice and light for water starts and uphauls and throwing about.

You talked it up and then delivered. I headed out on the F2 lighting on the friday when it wasn't as narly and did a whale watching tour. They have been coming in within 100 metres of Pt Carty.

The westerlys when they are howling can be fun, sounds like Bryn had a 'whale' of a time!

My boast for this map though is an average speed between 25-28knts most of the way there and back. Will stick this map up up on the site soon, along with my test run of the MMMM classic SunCoast downwind marathon....NE winds 15-25 visiting the seaside locations starting with M! Havent done it yet but pretty sure its more than achievable !
In between sails currently so will depend on wind and equipment finance when that gets done!...

Need to test 4 M's first, the theory on the 4 M's also is no need to have to go out past any headlands, Old Woman Island would be as far out as you'd need to go, still seriously off the wind to do it and a challenge to do all 4...it's going to be my practice run for Jan's Ledge to Lancelin.
If it works we could do our own MMMM Classic, got to be windy though, min 15knots+...lumpy seas, high speed lots of carnage, no light wind stuff.
Its around 10+k in a straight line, but by the time you head in and out etc etc, I think your talking more like 30+ks of sail distance.

Could kitesurfers do that run ?. Was speaking to a guy the other day that says you can drop a kit at the spit but hard to launch it.

Yep easy..excpet landing at the Spit a bit tricky, we often do Sunrise Beach to Coolum, thats a real leg burner (you use your legs more than arms in kiting), especially with so many bottom turns on the waves.
Coolum kite fest used to run a downwinder race from Sunrise to Coolum, until its popularity made it too big for its self and it imploded!
