Saw this on facebook and thought i'd share. Doesn't say what species however a few people hospitalised. Could just be bluebottles?

It would probably be blue blubber jellyfish. It amazes me how many people think they don't sting. They can pack quite a whack !

We do get a few blue bottles there at this time of year & it's always the swimming area i see them due to the current/bank.

Wow ? I must admit I've never seen a bluebottle at Wello. Ouch . Is that the swimming area on the west side ?

Yeah only see occasional one though, most ive seen is maybe 5 in same day, makes you do a little jig to avoid getting stung. Seems the bank collects them then pushes them down towards beach (plus the current sweeps that way around the point wall). Dunno if it is right but ive found it helps if you're out on water if they get you grab a handful of sand to get them off asap.
