I found some windsurf gear left behind from the LT Sandstone visit here. PM me if you find your gear missing.

Was a fun day on the water catching up with a few windsurfing crew I haven't seen for a while. Thanks to Peter N for bringing down his tandem board and supplying the food and Lachie cooking BBQ . Only one small dismount from me when a tack went wrong and I was totally backwinded! Got the gbyes sorted with jnr on the back sailing clew first until I had flipping the front rig. Had my first go on the windsurfer LT, forgot how much fun you can have in light wind.

Im going to take one for the team and do a run through the streets nude wind dance .
It has to blow soon !

Stinging jellyfish ?
I caught a 1.5 m bullshark the other day in my tiny tinny . Me the wife and dog totally s..t ourselves . Took half an hour to get to the boat and it circled the boat half a dozen times , what a rush

In two metres of water , WHERE I SAIL !!!

Talking to the old salt running the local tackle shop that has lived On Bribie for ever said no one has ever been killed by a shark . Two ways of looking at that ,
1, good statistics ,
or,
2 , it's about time.

Jellyfish are allergic to windy water and lycra.

Sharks are always there, just like the ice addicts that were driving in the other direction on your way to the boat ramp.

Sorry to digress, but how's the depth at Weyba?
Is it deep enough to foil?

I've not seen anyone foil there. The lake itself is quite shallow near the shore and then gets deeper further out but still fairly shallow. At a guess lake cootharaba depth?

I've never sailed at Sandstone Point before. Is it good for foiling? What's it like at low tide?
Anything to watch out for?

Sailing is good in most southerly directions; at low tide you will need to walk out about 100m to be 30cm deep. Which leads to... not good for foiling, unless it is high-tide or you sail at least 500m from the shore line (it is pretty shallow overall).

Bongaree or Red Beach would be better for foiling as it is deep-water.

... and Saturday (Jul 4) is looking ok at this point in time.

I was thinking of foiling there tomorrow morning near the high tide. Wind should be SW.
I read that Bongaree has strong tidal currents, so thought Sandstone Point could be nice on high tide.

I would think it too shallow to foil, can be only thigh deep in some spots at 3/4 tide. Ask the friendly locals for a safety briefing. I failed to listen and lost a fin and some bark

Yes it is deep enough to foil at Weyba, once you walk out across about 150 mtrs of sand, it drops off to chest deep within 10 mtrs. There are up to half a dozen kite foilers out there these days. They've actually put some buoys out and do some racing. There is a sandbank that's sticks out from a rocky point to the north of where you launch from you need to keep clear of but rest of lake is fine apart from shallow sand at edge all around lake that ranges in distance from shore.

It was ace

Four of the sandstoners and a couple of foilers.
Proper powered on a 7.8 race sail . Got the titanic FKD as fast as shes ever been . The fin was whistling at times , never heard that before on this board . It was rough in places . A frantic fun couple hours and id had enough . The wind was perfect. Id give it a four out of five , had to take one off because it was bloody cold. Cos after seven months living here ive become soft .

Thanks for the tips everyone, it was an awesome sail. Nicely cooked on the 4.2 from 10:30-12:30! Bongaree is actually really nice!

A shark swam by me in the passage last time I was up there. It was a 4.7 day earlier this year. I didn't get a good look at it - wind and waves ya know.

sat 8th of august the LT's are heading to the hallowed beaches at sandstone......

1pm high tide.

Par for the course wherever you sail on the salty ocean I reckon Gestalt. Just got to limit the time you spend in the water which is a quandary when thing to improve.

i read today a 10yo boy in tasmania got taken out of a boat by a great white. he was fishing and the white jumped out of the water and grabbed him....

can i just say...
