What an awesome session on the water, couldn't have asked for a better day. Flat water sailing 17-20knt winds with gust to at least 25knt. A little rain for a bit but nothing to stop us sailing. Four of us on the water all having an absolute blast. Wind died off for a short bit which was good for relaxing, then back on hard. Over 3hrs on the water for the best session I think I have ever had. Today a bit sore, but still smiling. Jirvine4505 on his Kona with a 6m (I think sail), Nowork on his new BIC Velloce with a 5.8m and suffering a broken mast, New sailor Craig on his BIC Velloce as well, and me on my BIC Metal Rock perfectly powered on a 4m NP Wavesail. Good old classics having an awesome time.

Good on you guys. I think you all would have improved your skills in those conditions. Well done.

Definately learnt I really have to get new harness lines and uphaul rope lol, my arms are killing me.

Really started getting and idea after I bought the Dasher DVD "oh dad not the windsurfing video again!!!!"
Felt like the 'hand of god' grabbed me and put me into the board in the sailing position!

Sandstone point Kona style, Was lucky enough to get a ride of Jeffs big Kona board, Loved it , Felt like a limmo on water it was great fun. I will be going back to that spot soon as possible kids and all.

Hi there"what road do you take to launch there? Looks a great spot! Is it hi tide only? Looks a bit smoother than beachmere.I've tried the park north of the bridge that's good too but wind seems patchy there,but could be timing"

Oxley Place just of Bestman road east, has toilet,kids playground and one bbq, also lovely grass rigging area. It was bang on high tide in pic,dont know what low tide is like but herd it is just more shallow rather than going out along way.

Yep everything I heard, it is only good on high tide. I got there about 3pm on Sunday, High tide was at 4:55pm, and we were all still sailing to near 6:30pm. If I didn't have family commitments (kid and partner) on the day I would have sailed for longer.

It is a lot weedier than Beachmere and has a lot of rocks around the mangroves to the right of launching. head to the left or straight out and its perfect.

Come on winds I want another awesome session.

hi guys, longtime sailor of sandstone point back in the day. i learnt to gybe there. love it.

low tide is a no go really. to get deep enough water at low tide you need to go out a long way.

you guys should also be carefull of the oyster beds at the northeastern end of the beach.

at low tide we used to launch from the wreck over at bongaree, south esplanade and sail over towards pebble beach or go around to the lookout at worim for wind aginst tide.

in a noreaster turners creek road (is a bit muddy) used to get a wind funnel effect from the canals across the passage. might not these days though.

other spot for a NE wind is red beach. you need tide against wind though.

This is my local area, I live around the cnr from here.


We take the kids there quite a bit, there is Big grass hill that is perfect for sliding down on cardboard.
Plenty of grass, shade, trees, BBQ, toilets and swings for the kids.

Pebble beach, where the marker is.


I live in Mackerel street and I am more than keen to head out on weekends.

nope not seen a bullshark. i gues they're there though. i wouldn't worry.

more of a worry would be the 8 foot+ whaler sharks, the great whites that get caught up in the sharks nets at worrim. actually bribie always reminded me a little of amity island from jaws. not sure if it's the people, the beaches or the deep water.

i have seen and sailed with dolphins which was fun.
seen plenty of dugongs, turtles.

we used to skurf on the trawler wakes as they came in from the bay until the trawler operator one day asked us not to because of the hundreds of sharks that followed them in.

i wouldn't worry though. the whole area has been fished out.

Skurfing a trawler berley trail? That could be the new extreme sport!

I always get the feeling that a shark is watching when I have sailed at beachies, don't know why, maybe cause its just up from the caboolture river mouth

Nah only ever caught the odd Shovel-Nose and Sting-Rays at Beachies. I have heard of the odd 2-3 foot Hammer heads though, but not at the Phillip Street end but closer to the mouth of the river. I dont catch anywhere near as much as I did there about 6-8yrs ago.

Yeh,still off the water five weeks now. Yesterday the doctor made it a bigger hole in my shin. Back to the start again. At least it will heal properly this time. Watch those rocks guys. I'd been sailing back and forth over them for about an hour. Just happened to stuff a gybe right on them. Also its really worth wearing booties. There are all sorts of thing's on the bottom. Lots of razor back's too. Someone there copped one bad recently. Long walk back.

Yeh, or we always called it Pebble Beach. It would really pay you to go there on a really low - low tide and check it out. Good spot for flat water. Little bit less wind though, as it lifts up over the landscape behind. Best spot if competent enough, is Bongaree. Take first right after jetty and follow water to small car park at end. Once your across the passage, it is also shallow and flat, and miles of paddock to play.

I'm always nervous to try new location on my own in case I get in over my head.

G'day Jeff. Renton Lane / South Esplanade. If you want to be on the safe side, I suggest SSE wind, first part of the run in tide. It will be wind with tide, so you can only end-up drifting up the passage if in trouble. Keeping up-wind against the tide won't be a problem once over the other side in shallow water where you can stay and play. Wont get too deep until late in the run-in. If not a big high, you may still be able to touch bottom standing. Couple of us aren't sailing at the moment. There are a few that usually sail there for company otherwise.
