I'm wondering exactly the same thing, because of the forecast on the weekend.
I'm sure people will say Wello, but it's a long drive for me, and so many of the forecasts just seem to fizzle.
Look at today for example, lots of solid yellow arrows, but no bleeding wind on the graph. And I'm not digging at the forecasters, it's just the nature of sou-westerlies, I think.
I still have delusions of Kirra working, and sailing back toward Snapper on a starboard tack, but I have no evidence that it will or ever has.
Dave was rigged to go out to Currumbin yesterday, until I pointed out that sailing an offshore wind on a run-out tide was maybe not the smartest thing to try. The direction and everything seemed OK though.
Tide will be wrong for SW on the weekend , I think too !!

could try cudgen? but then run the risk of driving all that way and it being too offshore ( u r already down that way arent u ken?)

but the obvious answer - u really need to just bite the bullet, load the car up and go to wello or viccy point, mainly wello if more west than southwest

wello westerlies are almost as consistent as a goldcoast southerly and fun coz there are so many windsurfers there (over 20 on sunday just gone), and loooong runs without boats, seaplanes, aquabogans

on a SW to NW, a good indicator that wello will have wind, or soon get wind, check the current observations for:

- Amberly
- Archerfield
- Oakey

If they have 20 knots-ish, wello is almost guaranteed to get nice wind, especially if air is 20 degrees or less

I live a few km from Cabarita, which must be very close to Cudgen, but I'm not sure exactly where you are referring to as a precise location.
I have a mate staying to study for Uni exams with me, so I'm not sure if I'll get up to Wello yet, but I may do. I'd love a sail , it's been flipping ages !!

i meant just south of cudgen creek. the car park at the start of the road that runs paralell with the creek. it has fairly easy access to the beach. i think a ne wind is dead side shore, so i'd imagine a bit southwest would be side shore? i've sailed there a couple of times on a ne

can't really compare gc westerlies to wello westerlies. it's a whole different quality of wind. someone who's only ever sailed the goldcoast in a westerly could never believe a westerly could be so good

OK, I know the spot. I used to take my dogs there walking all the time. It's just a few minutes drive for me.
I spoke to a guy called Matt at the Currumbin day who sails northerlies down there all the time, says he often does a down-winder home to Cabarita.
Sounds like I need to try a Wello Westerly. Sunday is looking good at this stage.

Just did some google map research, and a due southerly is a slight onshore here at Casuarina, so IF there is wind, it should be quite a good location.
I can see why Wello would be good in a westerly, with the north facing bay, but what about a southerly ? Do you launch from a different spot in a southerly ?? It would be a direct offshore if you launched from the centre of the bay, would it not ??

i prefer Vicki point in a southerly and it's perfect in a SSE wind.

Ha, Just looked at gMaps and Wello faces further south than I thought. I honestly thought the hill would stop anything from the south, i.e. SW.

There are some real logistics involved for me to be sailing at Wello these days. Still, I have a new(ish) weapon for the occasion, so looking forward to the impossible made possible.

hey there was one other place for a westerly that doesn't get a mention much.

scarborough at redcliffe.... not sailed it myself.

i go to wello and love it. bongaree at bribie is by far the best spot though if the wind stays SW.

and the wind needs to stay SW, what hurts bongers is when the wind swings from SW to west. in a westerly it's not the best.
