Redcliffe always the windiest spot?

Redcliffe is always the windiest spot on brisbane seabreeze, disregarding cape moreton. Why? Is it because the wind anemometer is on a 10m high pole at the end of the redcliffe jetty? I know redcliffe peninsular sits out into the bay which helps, but not that much surely?

Yep. It's never what theme graphs say. Both goldy and redcliffe i take off 7 knots.

I've check this a lot over the years with a wind gauge.

windiest for my money is bribie or wello for a seabreeze

Less 7kts hey? I've heard 5kts from a Gold Coast local for the seaway. Seems to be about right whenever i've sailed the broadwater. Any other Queens beach locals got their advice re the redcliffe wind?

Sorry, I beg to differ. I pretty well gauge what sail I use by the Seabreeze graphs and not by what it "feels" like when I turn up at Queens. I am so time poor at the end of a busy day I just rig up and go. It's usually right. Then again, I don't like being over powered.

Redcliffe over reads by three or four knots comared with what you feel on the beach at Queens. If you man up and get out a way you get one knot back. Despite the over read its still windier than everywhere else, not muddy , clean wind big swells good rigging hot girls and the best sailors.

Ye Steve,
I think it is pretty close to reality ( More like a 3-4 difference like IKW777 said).
When I head down ( 5 mins from home ), I know before leaving what kit I'll be on.
Ie on BOM Redcliffe wind reading
25-30 5.0.
20-25 5.5 sail.
15-20 6.1. sail.

Under that either 6.7 or 7.2 depends how the water state is. Higher swell needs less sail.

Hi Bill. I'll meet you up at queens soon for a sail. Soon as we get out of these April Douldrums! I'm going crazy at home. I got desperate on Saturday and went for a 5kt sail on the raceboard. Hit a 2sec peak of 12kts!!

Hi guys why worry what seabreeze or bom say just rigg for the conditions i have never rigg on what bom say.

I use the seabreeze live data to help determine before i leave home what type of sailing i'll do that day. Ie formula, slalom, bump and jump, or raceboard. I usually arrive at the beach with 2 boards and 3 sails and finalise the gear with actual conditions.

I had a bit of a go at KFC yesterday, 115l Mistral Screamer and KA 7.5 Koncept managed to plane fairly often. Must admit though, was a desperation sail.

The Redcliffe anemometer was reading 15-17 this day...

Steve i think you have to get a really big trailer to carrie all your gear because you could be able to sail all disciplines in all conditions.

And Suttons has a million screaming kids, swimmers in the water, hidden rocks, and weekend parking pressure.

Local windsurfers just don't use it.

Suttons is good in a ripping SSE. Unfortunately the hot chick's vacate when ever the wind goes ballistic or the amateur photographers come out to play

funny thing about suttons is once the wind hits above 15 knots the day trippers think it's a gale and go home.

local windsurfers used to use it. suttons and margate and scott's point were the spots in anything from the south and queens was the spot in the northerlies.

It seemed to be around the time the council revamped the boardwalk around that area people stopped going there.

Scotts Point is worth a try again as they have revamped the foreshore and there's heaps of grassed areas for rigging. I've forgotten the exact location of the rocks which quickly eat fins. Will head there one day again.

yeah scott's was THE place to go years ago.
I'm pretty sure the rocks are on your way out in a SE wind. there should be a yellow drum over the reef. you might be able to see them on google earth.

suttons is the same but in a NE wind. if you launch at suttons in a NE your most likely gunna hit the reef. launch in a SE and it's all good.
