I would like to come along as well but family commitments have me on a short reign today.

Next Saturday is the last 2 races at RQ for the spring series, Summer series starts mid Jan. Would be good to see a big fleet for the last races at RQ this year.

Sounds good Simon but my boy's birthday today means I can't get out. Enjoy your new set up and if you decide you don't like the sail you know where you can find a good home for it! . That 7.5 of mine just doesn't cut it on the lighter stuff.

Will try to make it , most likely on race 2 if it starts around 2.30 had fun on Saturday , didn't know course so had to wait for Jamie to tell me where next mark was. Is there a diagram of course anywhere

I am aiming to to do the RQ races on the 15th.

www.rqys.com.au/wp-content/uploads/1213-SAILINGSEASON-SI.pdf

Simon, above is the link for the sailing instructions. There is a diagram there on the last page.
Last time I was there I think the sailboards did the trapezoid course, O2A.
They usualy indicate on the back of the start boat which course to do.

Pay no attention to Tony. The *correct* procedure as we did last time: stop at each mark, wait for me to catch up, and I'll then tell you where the next mark is ;)

Seriously though, the only gotcha with the sailing instructions is that the Technos actually do the shorter course even when the longer course is signalled. Can throw you a bit if you're not too sure of the course to start with and you see somebody rounding a different mark.

I am yet to turn up on time on a Saturday for the racing, almost made it on Saturday but was probably 5 mins away from the start line when the hooter went. Next Saturday maybe...

Anyway, point is that I ended up sailing just south of the racing for an hour or so and I am assuming there were the same numbers of jellyfish across the racing areas. I was struggling with the fact that they kept pushing my centreboard back when I hit them. I tried standing on it to keep it down, but then I couldn't always get the right stance to rail the board nicely. Is this something all the race boards suffer when there are loads of jellies out in the bay, or is it just that may centreboard is too loose?

I missed the first race as well but remember there are two races so you can always just do the second one. I have the same problem with the jellies knocking up the centreboard and I think everyone else does to.

+1 for Hawks Nest cant wait, sounds like a good number of sailors from Qld are heading down.

The centreboards on the new boards are much tighter than the older boards, but they can still kick up sometimes when they hit jelly fish. Unfortunately they are also harder to deploy and retract.

I missed the start of race 1 last Saturday, but had a good first work and caught up to the RSXs, however Jamie was still of in the distance. Coming round the first windward mark, my mast track became separated from the board! The RQYS rescue crew was fantastic. I was only in the water for about 5 minutes. They collected me, all my equipment and delivered me back to the marina in under a hour. I was packed up and ready to go home before the fleet come in from the second race.

I've identified the issue and hopefully will have it sorted for next weekends racing.

Me too, I'm really looking forward to the Oceanic's also. I've booked my tent site at Jimmy's Beach Caravan Park. I'm heading down a few days early to check out the conditions.

I've tried to register for the Oceanics online but couldn't find the tab on the regatta web site. Have you been able to register on line? if so how did you do it.

Hang on. Wait for Jamie? Nobody waits for Jamie. He's usually a leg in front.

(yes, those Jellies are a nightmare but at least you know how it would feel to be a passenger in Mark Webber's car)

Bit of a dilemma though, should I bring my antique '250' or this?

Bring the 250, that Phantom obviously doesn't come with enough wind.

Yes, Mr Ducati who is most efficient at packaging large items. BC may recognise it too.

Just my luck for there to be absolutely NO wind for it's maiden (for me) voyage. Luckily I had my paddle in the car and before I got loosened up a nice 10 knot SE hit.

I've discovered too that wind and tide in same direction is no problem on these larger boards. In a really strong tide you feel as if you can perpetually sail to windward (and then fly downwind and start again).

Put it this way, people have asked me if they are building the GC Cruise Ship Terminal so I can dock the bloody thing.

That board is going faster there than it ever did in Hervey Bay
