For those who sail the Train, Beware!

For years we have parked in the turning circle area (and still can for a limit of 4 hours) and we have always parked at right angles to the kerb to allow for more parking spaces and a safer exit. Everyone who visits (dog walkers, families, fishermen etc) all park in that area in the same way and have done so for over 20 years and the practice mirrors how cars are parked in the designated parking bays leading up to the circle.

Yesterday four of us copped $70 fines for doing this as we were not parked parallel to the kerb as required by QLD Transport road rules. I've done some research and the law does require parallel parking unless signposted otherwise so the absence of signage telling us we must park parallel is no defence! What's annoying is that now, just before the whole area is re--developed anyway, Council decides to enforce a practice it has allowed for years!

I plan on lodging an objection and will let people know if I'm successful or not but be warned that the Inspectors are correct in saying we must park parallel. Another nail in the Train 'coffin' I'm afraid.

Good luck mate, I was just fortunate there were no spots at the end. They are complete pricks though, a warning may have sufficed.

Looks like council is gathering money to funds us later complete make over / conversion / rebuilding of that place.

We should give our councilpersons free windsurfing kiting lessons to have them on our side ( alternatively vote and push for Tony next time for the office )

or at least new create new job for Tony at council : water and wave quality testing head inspector requiring constant sailing at Broadwater on energy efficient ( wind propelled) watercraft.

<div>I've done some more research on what grounds Council will consider (and won't consider) to waive the parking fine. Based on this I don't believe we have any grounds at all for objecting to the fine.

<div>

<div>Rather than waste my time (and get even more frustrated and angry) asking Council to be reasonable (which it clearly isn't) and given that parking at the Train is well and truly stuffed now anyway since they painted the yellow line on the circle, I've decided just to pay the $70 and move on. The aggro isn't worth it!!!

considering southport and surrounding areas have lost so much street parking to the tram system, you'd think the council would be more considerate in the remaining parking areas.

is anyone actually using the tram? i see 3 to 5 people aboard any gold coast bus most of the time. what a waste of resources and the streets with tramlines now look pretty ugly
