Have booked in to do the Guy Cribb clinic at the lake next week. Currently at home in Mackay with the hatches battened, gusting to 45 knots currently with an exciting night ahead waiting for cyclone Dylan to hopefully cross the coast around Ayr early tomorrow morning. Assuming the highway south is open Saturday morning have booked in to the motel at Boreen Point from Saturday for a week to get a bit of time on the water before the clinic on Wednesday.

I was just wondering what gear the other participants in the clinic are planning to take. The Tewantin forecast appears to be for 12 to 17 knots roughly for the windiest part of the day for most of the next week. I am intermediate standard looking for help in getting comfortable on my shorter boards. I am planning to take four boards, 170 litres down to 101 litres, four sails 7.7 down to 5.0 metres.

Do you think that will cover the conditions?

I am also keen to know how gusty the wind is on the lake in a south easterly?

Hi OW The kit you are bringing with you sounds like a really good combination to cover all conditions on the lake. Looks like by wed afternoon the wind could kick in a bit more like around 20 knots. Can be gusty on the lake but not that bad, was there on Sunday and could barely hold onto a 5.3 was waiting for the lulls but they didn't really happen was fairly consistent that day but was also very strong wind. About 15 knots is ideal on the lake as water state stays flatter and you can get some really long runs (7km) so even with gust you can usually plane through to the next gust ahead.

I've always found the lake will throw anything at you. some days when the wind is forecast to be light you can get an hour of great winds and days that are forecast to blow hard the wind can just die at some point then kick back in an hour later.

i take all of my gear. it will cover everything.

the great thing about the lake is if you're camping you can leave all your gear rigged on the shore and take out whatever suits the wind on the day or at that time. take a tarp and peg it down over your sails so they don't blow away or tie them to a tree.

all up it's a good spot with lots of changing conditions throughout the day.

p.s hope Dylan doesn't cause you to much havoc.

By the way there are still places available on this course and the forecast is looking very promising. Deposits are still being taken here.

The 2 days was a little short but definitely picked up some new skills and was able to test in the conditions that we had. Thanks for all that made this haopen !

Pretty much as Glenn said, although two days was a little too short a huge
amount was covered by Guy and everything was explained extremely well.
Have taken onboard lots of advice on technique and tips, just got to to put
it into practice now. Overall a very worthwhile two days and would recommend
the course to sailors at any level.

Got to agree with the guys above, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and definitely worth the 20 hours of driving to be able to take part. Guy Cribb is an awesome guy and a great teacher. Thanks to Brain and Mary at the Motel for their hospitality and the guys at the pub for their delicious food and cold beer! It was great to socilaise with windsurfers and talk windsurfing. Hope to do it all again one day in the future.

Had my first sail today at home at Far Beach since the Guy Cribb clinic and didn't realise how much of what we were coached has actually sunk in! Had a 10 to 15 knot N/NE consistent breeze, beautiful clear Dahab'ish flat water, rigged my NP 7.7 Hornet on my big SB Go. My rig was perfectly tuned after following all Guy's tips and had a great session.

Had this voice in my head with a pommie accent the whole time telling me to stick my arse out, elbows down and it's hip to be square! Found myself growling out loud when required and had an E=MC2 moment as well.

I can safely say I learnt a hell of a lot at the clinic which is already making my time on the water more enjoyable.
