If Councillor Dawn Chrichlow has her way she wants to see the complete Broadwater Tourist Park (Caravan & Camping Ground) be sold off and make way for Luxury Highrise and Southbank type development with restaurants and possibly a Big Wheel. Kfc's is already windshadow blocked in South Winds from the proliferation of Highrise Buildings on the Northern End of Southport. Back when I started kiting you could still Launch and Land at Kfc's/Len Fox Park/Loders Creek in a Southerly but this got worse as the years went by with additional developments to those locations. If this type of development were to be allowed, then we could expect further favourable winds that currently are not blocked or wind shadowed being from the South, South, East (SSE) through to South, East (SE) to be blocked. These two wind directions would have to equate for approximately 2/3rds of available and favourable winds for us in that location all year round and in particular for the ability to launch/land and the ability to tack away from the shore area successfully. If we were to move to launch and land say in front of these proposed Luxury Highrise with Restaurants and Facilities just like Southbank in Brisbane as Dawn Chrichlow is suggesting and no longer at Kfc's/Len Fox Park/Loders Creek (as it would be useless to us due to major wind shadowing effects), then could we see our ability for this to happen. I think not!

Plus the fact is the new and currently being constructed 50 metres plus of land reclamation of land out in front of the SOON TO DISSAPEAR Broadwater Tourist Park (If Dawn Chrichlow gets her own way, which she usually does) is going to be planted with trees to a fair extent along the shoreline area for Council Environmental Policy requirements and shoreline retention from erosion as Council Officers made local Kiting and Windsurfing Community members aware of in the past when those members were making enquiries as to the concerns of the Kiting and Windsurfing Community over the Stage 3 Broadwater Parklands Developments and its impacts on Kiteboarding and Windsurfing in that whole area.
If this is to be the case there is a Council Election coming in the not to faraway future and perhaps things could be changed if oppositions were rallied to a cause and certain Councillors were not re-elected, just sayin
