if one was to be picky , there is a chance of a little rain at the back end of the week forecast, so will have to mark it down to a 9/10 :)

Hi Guys - I'm planning to be up at GI for the Nationals & 2 weeks before that will be in Magnetic Island on holiday with the family (from Melb). So my question is where do I go sailing in the two weeks I have before the event? I'll have my Falcon 106 & 6.2 / 7.0 sails.
Is Magnetic Island itself a good place to windsurf?

Magnetic can be great especially in a SE. I mostly sail at Geoffrey Bay there. Gets chop on swell so can be challenging but fun. You'll use a 7.0 much more than a 6.2. If you're at Maggie for a week you may or may not get wind but there is a shed load of other stuff to do. I spend as much time as I can there!!

For another week there the most likely spot to get good wind that time of year ( if you are up for driving a couple of hours south) is Bowen. Gets the SE really well, variety of water conditions, and lots of places to stay from super cheap to pretty swish.

Thanks - I'm planning on renting a car so I can be free to travel where ever is good. I'll try Bowen & is there anywhere between Townsville & Cairns which is good?
Cheers

In a SE I have really enjoyed bump and jump at Forrest Beach near Ingham between Townsville and Cairns. Haven't been for a while ( sailing magnetic) but gets quite a wave on the right day. Probably the worst possible place for a slalom board though- brown washing machine with lots of jumps ( if you had a freewave board awesome). Further north I can't really comment. Had a few longboard sessions at Mission Beach but never any breeze to really judge it by. Others of the FNQ Mob will have more experience there. Had a session at Bowen in my Fox 105 yesterday ( after some LT training time!) it was so good and heaps more wind than Townsville got.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll just hang out at Magnetic & Bowen, then drive up to Cairns.

Cheers

Hi Snorkel - are you seeing any good wind shaping up in your neck of the woods? I've been up in Maggie for almost a week now & the pickings have been slim

Well the event was killed by COVID and the wind only turned up on Sunday and Monday, but it was still well worth the trip. I think we had 12 of us on the water for some absolutely glamour sailing. Already making plans to go again next year.
