Anyone got any tips on good beaches where you can windsurf - say within an hour of Brisbane. I am willing to slightly sacrifice quality of spot so that the wife is happy on the beach. From experience these spots are few and far between as they tend to be,well,........windy. Was thinking somewhere towards the gold coast given sunshine coast is full of cows.

Are the beaches at Broadwater any good?

Happy wife = longer windsurfing = happy me

Shearwater is good in SE wind and outgoing tide with a small protected beach out of the wind on the northern end of Shearwater Esplanade (about 400m from where everybody sails).

^ agreed.

You want a Southerly with outgoing tide, like today.

P.S. Captain Cook Drive was really, really good

P.P.S. the beach there is even nicer, but not very wind protected.

My missus hates the wind, but she was quite happy at Shearwater.
Mind you, it's not a proper beach really, just a sandy border to the Stradbroke Channel, so it's not as nice for swimming as a proper beach.
Nice grass areas, no toilets or showers, lots of teabags, but not the sort that make a nice cuppa.
The Train, further south, is not as good in southerlies, but has Australia Fair shopping close by and the Southport Mall, as well as amenities.

That's a cracker wormy. Laughed out loud when I saw that one.

My tip is take two cars and send her into Cavil ave with the credit card. In my experience the only time the missus is truly happy is when lost deep in the labyrinths' of a shopping centre surrounded by shoes and handbags.

You'll have a whole day of guilt free sailing and you will both have some stories to tell each other about your fun filled day on the coast. It can be a bit like going out on the drink though, the sailing is the party but getting the cc bill is like the hangover.

I would have said Thompson's Beach at Vic Point, Redlands.
Good and safe, but look for mid to high tide on a SE.
Cheers and good luck!!
