Hi Crew,
ive noticed the council reclaiming some beachfront near the moored catamaran ' Hitch hiker. So far theyve shored it all up n are placing a large boulder wall along the foreshore which has erroded dramatically over the last 12months.
Apparently this wall is to continue south along to the water pumping jetty near Gemini resort?
This could possibly RESTRICT our access to the waterway!!! Leaving NO BEACH like further north towards Bills boat hire.
Id previously read council was to proceed building a rock wall from Military jetty to Bells ck. To possibly prevent erosion 'IF' Bribie Island washes through.
Anyone know whats going on? Any feedback?

Last year when the dredge was used to deepen the channel a lot of sand was deposited along the foreshore. Some of the sand banks also became larger, making the main channel somewhat narrower near the lighthouse area. As we know, the tide pushes out much faster through the narrow channel now. After the bigger tides, sand along the beaches was also washed away. I can only guess that some of the sand is on Bulcock Beach because it has a lot more sand now. As for the Council knowing what they are doing..............................???

It all started when they put the additional stormwater outlets in. Totally stuffed it! They should spend the money on opening up the original mouth and getting a certain real estate agency family's development arm to pay for all associated costs in maintaining the mouth to the south. I just don't get how they can get away with opening up new canal's along the passage yet try and put a 4 storey building up in Yaroomba! Or for that matter propose to develop suitable land west of the passage that is actually out of the swamp and Q100 flow path, the mind boggles?

You are aware that big parts of the world, such as Denmark, are below sea-level... they manage just fine because humans are pretty good at solving problems like this.

Yep all the development has slowed up the local fishing... most SEQ riparian zones (biological filters) are now housing estates. Poor water quality = poor fishing. Anyone seen any plans for foreshore development?

Is it all part of the Burke Street extension from what I see on the Council Website as below

Project scope
The attached plan[2807KB] shows the layout for the construction of the new road.
The project will involve:provision of a two lane, asphalt road surface complete with cycle lanes in both East and West bound directions construction of two new roundabouts at Pelican Waters Blvd and Blaxland Street
major earthworks and drainage works through the road reserve area from the end of Burke Street through to Pelican Waters Blvd, providing the foundation for the new road surface
improving flood storage within the low-land road reserve by providing and re-sizing open drainage channels and storage basins
provision of road lighting and revegetation landscaping..

Looking at the drain pipes on Pelican Waters Bvd it has the wash back stop valves on them. See what happens in the next few months with the drainage channel going into GB directly.

Just a word of warning about the drain pipes at GB. Had a look the other day when the water was crystal clear and got a bit alarmed at the metal stakes in and around them just below the surface by 50 cm to 1 m deep.

A couple of times I have been close to them or landed near them. Now I know what is near them best to give a wide berth or a radius of 5 m away from the pipes. Its pretty much all them from the hire place to the Gemini resort.
