I saw you two guys sailing above doing very long, fast runs,
I was at sailing at KFC 11-2 pm on 4.2m,
Looking on the chart hard to believe that half of the time I didn't have enough wind to plane or finish gybe. gusts then almost nothing to keep balance on the board
Spot completely empty beside me and one kite (bravo Ron).

yeah macro was very gusty wind , was constantly trimming kite
saw a sailboarder out further going mach 1
there was 2 other kiters earlier at kfc

did shearwater to train and back via spit entrance yesterday but was too light to plane all the way. there were amazing clean waves coming in at spit, but not enough wind to get on the plane

a few of us at shearwater today. did shearwater to that new fancy jetty near the train and back again via the grand. amazing long overpowered run. i got hit by a mega rain windy squall just as i got back to about oatlands and it was a whiteout and could just makeout the channel markers


the sandbank facing the train/camp ground was dead flat and nuking wind, with perfect angle. will go back there instead tomorrow if it's still windy and ENE

haircut do you think there is any chance of planning through the waves at wave break?

would love to try it out.

Must catch with fin that shallow bank I guess...

hmmm wasnt me? and there wasn't another soul on the water south of wavebreak when i went down there. maybe it was later?

gestalt, s or ssw gets wind in there and you can actually ride a wave down-the-line (maybe a few turns if lucky?), the wave has a banana curve shape. it curves away from wavebreak at each end. i think u need big waves on beach for there to be ok waves there.

still, i'm not sure i'd drive there just for a sail

Hay Haircut big thanks for lending me the 4.5 I was still overpowered but she was a good sail and I felt in control . The sail is an oldy but a goody . Cheers Greg

Down at the train. Very windy. What time haircut?

Went to KFC and the train at around 9.30 and it was too strong had to be around 45-50. Heading down again now as it might be sailable now.

how is water condition?

We've got a challenge ahead. Going to eat then try and get off the island.

What an amazing sesion
I was sailing KFC 10 to 1 pm. Naish 4.2m2 and JP 92L.
Not many other windsurfers, kites and boats sailing around.
To be fair I didn't saw a single one on the water today.
Must be the rain limiting visibility.
All the Broadwater water just for me.



Amazingly on straight run from KFC to SeaWorld water relatively smooth, and due to unusual huge tide , deep enough to sail over all sand banks.

sailed kfc from 2 till 4.30 and was quite nice it dropped right off at the end

pity, you missed the best, the scary time, and I missed on any companion at this scary time
there was much more wind this morning that at this peak yesterday
still can't believe how actually easy is to sail ( or rather stay on the board) at near hundred km wind and I don't wish even to have anything smaller that my well tuned 4.2 Naish

i don't think it was what the observations claim and the readings are always overcooked.

i'm sure ive been more overpowered than what weve had over last few days. we had a 60+ knots a few years ago which chewed away all the beaches, and that was seriously wild to try and sail. this wasn't at all like that. if someone measured it with a hand held anemometer, i'd guess 35-45 max??

this is the gutter at Kirra in Feb 2009. Was beautifully wide and gave an awesome run up at the waves, and an awesome 1+ km speed run parallel to the waves. Was slalom and freestyle practice heaven Then just a few days later we had the massive winds which changed it all

I agree i recon it was no more than 45 but that's still strong. i sailed from around 12 until about 1.20. At times it really lulled for a few seconds but when it came back in it was off it's head. I was on my new 4.2 Blade, which i have to say handled the conditions beautifully. When i first started at around 12 it was very sailable but from about maybe 1 o'clock on it really kicked in again. A few times the board got lifted off the water getting wind under it on the chop. Good fun though except for the rain stinging my face, it was raining bloody heavy most of the time.
That gutter at Kirra looks unreal i wish it was still there
