I realy realy enjoyed a big sail off ephram island last weekend - @evlpanda what time do you reckon we could across the bars? last week I sailed until 4 hrs after high tide - about 3.30 - but the wind was holding the water in - say 2- 3pm kickoff on sat?? - anyone got any other ideas for a spot this weekend on this tide. I have been reading old forums on here & trying new spots & I have to say it is brilliant !

ps it is a low high tide it might not be deep enough?? last weekend was a king tide - very high

i think the tide might be the wrong direction, however i don't think there's much variation in it tomorrow anyway

Yes. What to call it? Hollywell? Crab Island? Sovereign Islands? That bank only works on a higher than usual high tide. 1.2m at least I think. Special occasions only. Same tide rules as Shearwater.

I measured the runs from Hollywell out to the far red marker as 2.2km on GoogleMaps. For comparison The Train from the top of the caravan park to Sea World sand bank is 900m.

Also try The Grand (hotel) at Labrador. Really good on a S-SE and in incoming tide. Can be sailed any tide but flows really strong there and you don't want the tide taking you out the seaway if anything breaks. It will. Incoming tide recommended.

I also like Northern side of Wave Break Island on a Northerly and incoming/almost top of tide. Shallow there too but truly perfect gybing area in that lagoon.

I'm thinking about a quad for all these shallow spots. At 16cm you're starting to go as shallow as a kite, no?

yes - fins have got very deep this century - we used to use much wider but shorter ones last century - sonic sails @ the grand too - where do you rig there? I have been to lunch in all the restaurants there & the idea of finishing up & popping in for a beer seems ideal.
