'FREE' FREERACE THIS SUNDAY LAKE COOTHARABA!!!!

Come and try Freerace this Sunday at Lake C, for FREE no FEES!

Cracker of a forecast from the SE so great conditions, should be 15knots and then some!
This Sunday was scheduled for 'Mooloolaba' but with no NE forecast the switch is to the Lake for the SE winds.

Wind wanderers have a social camping weekend on at the Lake this weekend so the event will add onto the weekends activities, check out the WW GPS comp for info on bonus points available, check out http://www.windwanderers.org.au/Home.aspx for more info on the GPS comp and the weekend.

Due to FR Crew AM commitments, Briefing wont be any earlier than 1.00PM, aiming for the Hour to start at 2.00pm, drinks and presentation at the pub from around 4.30-5.00pm.

There will be more great prizes available, stay tuned for updates on those and reports from last weekend,
Make sure you 'like our Face Book page' for updates also.

Freerace Tactics

Sorry about the quality of the image, bit it's some food for thought on how to attack 1Hr of power to get your best result.
The below image shows top 4 results, whilst the overlay doesn't really show how far apart in distance to each other all these guys were they were in fact miles apart, all chasing what they thought was the best wind on the lake.

Clearly Dave managed longer runs with his position, probably less gybes, when you look at say Jonesy's track, yet the differences were slight, so was it in fact windier down that end of the lake?!

The track that is missing is Peter D's! In fact Peter was missing for a brief moment....must have had something to do with breaking a mast on the far side of the lake ! What a Bugger! What resulted though was a 'text book perfect' emergency out at sea de rig, followed by a long slow perfect tow back to shore, I think by Kiwi Mike was it? Legendary effort!

Special mention also to the Gold Coast crew that came up for the event also, big thanks.

Its an all time epic wind forecast this weekend...Bump and Jump free sailing at Mooloolaba Friday Night, maybe some more wind BOTH directions on Saturday, then a big blow Sunday.

Lets get a big crew up there on Sunday and show visiting UK Guru/Pro Simon Bornhoft, how its done in Queensland! We may even tempt him to join in!

Current leader board and results are now up on the website, http://www.freeracequeensland.com/results.html

After the weekend hopefully we will have a Gallery of photos on the site also.

Quick wrap of the results,

After 2 rounds

Early days into the season and we have had two successful days of Freeracing.

Race 1 at Woorim beach Bribie Island was a challenge in 25knt North Easters and sizeable side swell and chop.
Rob Humpries , on Ezzysails and a Starboard Kode was right at home in the conditions being used to the open water conditions from being a regular sailor at Mooloolaba.

Race 2 at Lake Cootharaba saw challenging conditions for different reasons, the wind was on, ranging 14-18knots but wasn't all over the lake all the time, it was gusty and patchy, smooth waters but the wind did have biggish holes of nothing at times. Tactics prevailed here with Dave Sando's hitting the high side of the Lake with nice long runs prevailing on his Avanti sails and Starboard ISconic Combo.

Kellie Tusler on Hot Sails and Lorch boards is holding her own against the lads and is hot on the tail of Peter De Laet and leader Michael Jones on Ezzy Sails and Fanatic V Ray.

This Sunday is set to be the big test with strong SE winds forecast it may see some competitors switch over to Freestyle Wave Gear?

Just a sample of what went on at Lake C today, great sessions of 1hr Freerace in some pretty strong winds with a chance to Freesail before and after!

Thanks to all those that attended, Opportunity to challenge yourself to push the limits for 1hr non stop in tough conditions sorted a few out and better still against World 1Hr record holder Brad Anderson even better.

For those that didn't make it, or haven't had a crack yet your missing out on these great sessions and prizes!

There is also heaps of great photo's like these from Tex Bec, head over to our Facebook page, click on Tex's post and go to his 'Flickr' photo album to have a look, if you would like your own copy, message Tex on Face Book or through the Flickr account and you can make some arrangements with him...there is heaps of great shots like these.

Unofficial results, results will be posted later in the week, there is also a 'live' GPS replay of the event that will be available later also.
1. Brad Anderson
2. Rob Humpries
3. Michael Jones

Here's how the Freerace panned out in replay! check out the link, pretty cool, you can see the leader board change throughout the event, it was neck and neck between Rob and Brad the whole time, Brad pulling away in the second half.

This replay feature is a cool edition to the Freerace Format, click here..

That is the custom Freerace software that my clever husband Dylan (from KA72) has put together (or I should say still refining, watch this space likely to be even more improvements by the end of the season!) for our FR series.
