I am chasing a 36cm Powerbox fin for my old Mistral Flow, couldn't find one in buy and sell, and was wondering if anyone has one lying about that they might like to sell me.
I know I probably shouldn't post here but I tried to create a wanted ad but the link didn't work for me

I've got a 33cm SL7 used 4 times if thats any good.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I would be better off with a free-ride style fin. I have been struggling with setup/technique for ages. I'd been mucking around with my sail, harness lines, stance, etc, etc, wondering what I was doing wrong, ready to buy another motorbike if things didn't improve. Then a "Grand Master" and a "Legend" mentioned that the standard chipped/scratched 31cm that came with the board when I bought it might be a little small for the 6.7 I have been trying to sail in the easterly chop off Burrum. Legend Hooray loaned me a nice clean 36cm Maui (bit like a K-one free-ride) and everything just clicked . I could never have imagined that my fin could make such a difference. Everything felt balanced and I sailed for twice as long. It made it very hard for me to hand it back to Ray at the end of the day. Hence my search. On a bit of a budget and not too many windsurfing shops up this way. Thought seabreeze my best option.

unfortunately people tend to hold onto 30-40cm good freeride powerbox fins. Maybe save for a bit get a new one that way you get an undamaged fin of the size you want. Fins arent as much of a waste of $ as they seem as you change boards as you outgrow/want something new but good fins you will keep for a long time.

Keep an eye on ebay. I got a new 32 freewave mistral from germany for about $60 new, Different ones coming and going all the time

First time with a GPS, I had two fins to try with my 7.0 on a Mistral Flow. A 31 and a 37. Of course the 31 should be faster, shouldn't it?

Bzzz. Wrong! The 37 was a good 1.5 knots quicker...

Fins make such a difference. Don't give up, windsurfing nirvana is only a credit card swipe away

Hey Graham last time I cheked motorbikes were a tad more expensive than a new fin???????
And a new fin can't kill ya (unless your snorkelling)

Don't worry too much about getting a "free-ride style fin" as a good upright slalom fin will give you better lift over the chop, upwind etc etc.
Size about 2-4cm less than the OFO tail width.
If ya get one a bit too big you'll soon knock off a coupla cm on the sandbar

Email Dieter or Al for a second handy, but don't waste your money on old unsuitable crap or it's back to square one

That'd be the width of the board measure One Foot Off back from the tail (that's 305.4mm for metric lovers).

Yes, don't discout an upright fin. I regularly sail my mistral flow with a 37cm upright in the rancid chop at Queen's Beach - works great in around 20kts and gives you something solid to push your back foot against. My next fin for that board is a 35cm Select Eagle swept back, which has nothing like the lift.

Thanks for the explanation Ian. It measured 37.5cm at one foot of the tail. I guess that means I'm looking for a fin anywhere from 33.5 to 35.5, great tip Arnold thank you. Makes you wonder why Mistral supplied a 31 with the board

Blimey that's narrow I'd go at least 36cm of like Ian said 37cm

The 36 that Ray loaned me was on the money I think. I know you've modified a larger fin to suit the pier, would chopping an old race 44 be the go do you think? It's doesn't look that much longer that the 36 freeride I borrowed when you take into account the swept tip area of the freeride. I know I can hear you all saying 'just go and buy a new fin', but chopping stuff up, ooops, I mean 'customising' is heaps more fun.
