Anyone out in the gold coast today? Looking to try out flat water spots down that way as I will be moving down there soon

For Tuesday, with tide coming IN all day best spots are SOUTH of the seaway, for flatwater. (the best spots are actually north, but what can you do about the moon?)

i.e. The Train which is at the end of North Street, Southport:

I'm going flatwater myself tomorrow but I'm probably going to go to The Grand (hotel) which is about 1.5 clicks north on that map. It's a short run along a bank, in a channel... damn it, and is the main launching area for jet-skis. Sigh. That said I really like it for it's gybe-blast-gybe fun factor.

Hmm, on second thought I might go to The Train. But launch from Leonrd Fox Park (KFC) just further north. I'm a sucker for nice rigging areas. Dunno, I'll flip a coin or something.

The problem with The Broadwater on a public holiday is the 10,000,000 boats that come out, although that said it looks rainy and windy tomorrow, and they don't like the wind. Honestly if it's windy enough you'll be lucky to see a dozen boats.

Cheers for the info evl. Ended up at shearwater and yes, their was plenty of boats out!!! Enjoyed the day although it was a bit patchy at times. I think I am gonna like living down that way Will have to see if I will be out tomorrow, depends on what the ex has planned for our 3y/o and whether I have actually been invited! May bump into you tomorrow.

I was out this afternoon, about 1 click upwind on a white/red sail. Agreed, patchy.

Best sail I've had on the coast is Kirra or Currumbin. But they're a bit of a drive for me. The ocean can be so, so nice.

Cool have that saved that page, like ya work evl!! Sonic, u were right about the SSW athough is light at the mo, do u reckon it will swing SE by the arvo? Prob wont get down til 11am ish
Looks like I have not been invited out with our 3y/o so i may have to drive down to check out some of the other local spots..ahem...I mean available accomodation the gold coast has to offer

Doubt it will go true SE this time of year maybe S and the odd swing SSE if the sun pops out anywhere from KFC North in my opinion but if at train stay out past the boats and ok. You the chap who was watching the dog stalk the lizard that ran up the tree?

went to train 1st, saw a kiter stuck out on the sandbar who couldnt get in due to absolutely no wind!! (I know its cruel but I really tried hard not to laugh inside!)
hung around for an hour but didnt seem to be happening
(kiter still on sandbar after the hour and some heavyish rain)
Decided to drive to Shearwater for a look and by the time i got there the wind had arrived!!! not quite as patchy as Monday but at times it was around the 25knot mark!! Had a great couple of hours on my 6m b4 heading back north. Very much looking forward to the move down, am loving the sailing down there!

Indeed not bad day on Shearwater.
I had 7.4 and at times was almost feel flying like out of control kites .
Funny that with my intermediate skills i could handle stronger above 30 knots gusts on my 91 L JP but get in difficulty when wind suddenly dropped below 2 knt then back. Water-start is such conditions seems to be almost impossible. I simply couldn't take that sail off the water. Any tip how to get sail above water , when wind and opposing current try to trash and sink sail ? Even old trick with board under the boom doesn't help ...

Yes this is an old problem at shearwater the flow just takes the sale under, its really difficult but getting a tiny bit of wind under the sale is the key and await a gust. We had a sail at the grand 3 of us 0-30knts in 5 mins, wind squalls with rain usually, typical "winter" feel, usually any sailing April/May is a bonus getting into our quieter months.
