25-33 knots today? ....really, where? Certainly not on the Sunshine Coast.....rather they just forecast the truth....crap ..
puffs of breeze every now and then and plenty of rain...
why do they always over exaggerate A) the chance of wind , B) the strength ...I always deduct 5- 10knots of their forecast to get some where closer to the truth..but this forecast was 20 knots out, that's not a little off, that's massively wrong.

QLD BOM is like a political party always over promising, and constantly under delivering .....

I always assume its because of liability issues. They don't want to be held responsible if someone complains of an underestimated wind prediction which resulted in a boating accident etc. etc.

Wind did get to around 20 knots maybe a little more at Caloundra yesterday although not until 5.15pm.(was the odd gust prior to this but very short frustrating puffs) I enjoyed being fully powered up on my 5.8 and the had it all to myself as by then everyone had left and the rain had cleared. Unfortunately only got 1/2hr before it was too dark.
Bom had told SC disaster management on Friday that there were 5 possible scenarios for Saturdays weather as it was very hard to predict due to the movement and position of the low. They certainly didn't get their prediction of 100mm of rain right. Yesterday was probably turned out like one of the 5 scenarios they predicted. As sailcoothara said there are liability issues. I usually deduct 10 knots off what they say as SC weather is for offshore waters so it probably was that windy well off shore yesterday and we ended up with the 15-23kts closer to shore late in the day. was just glad to get out on the new HSM GPS and give it a few runs fully light up.

Shame I was looking forward to this weekend
Unfortunately nothing has changed over the last 30 years. At least we have the wind meters now saving us from sitting waiting on the beach all day.

It's a pitty they can't be a little more accurate, as the doom and gloom predictions get taken by the media and blown out of all proportions...as a result thousands of Brisbaneites I'm sure didn't come up to the coast this weekend....
Their ' paranoid' predictions really hurt the tourism industry, should really blame the media there, they need to be held accountable for what they spruke...

A more accurate forecast would have been.....'there is a big low heading down the coast, we are not too sure of its movements, but would suggest no boating over the weekend especially well offshore...there is also a fair chance it may come no where near the coast and we could have a really lovely day on Sunday perfect for the beach...!

I can handle inaccurate but not 90% wrong, seems society is just toatally tuned into the 'worst case scenario' these days....

Interesting in WA though they can call a seabreeze within 5 knots more often than not and don't even to worry about wind warnings until the number25- 30 comes into a 'realistic' chance of occurring, the QLD BOM calls strong wind as soon as there is a ripple if breeze....

Nothing new here...just a rant that I think they can do much better than what they currently do....
Last weekends forecast was nearly as bad also...strong winds etc...great sail Friday afternoon with 20+ but then the 25knts for saturday didn't even get close.

Off to enjoy the lovely non storm non windy weather on this balmy sunny day...perfect for a SUP!

I agree. Same with rain. If there's the slightest chance, it will be mentioned.
