my sister in law is alone on a farm near Mareeba, she is bunkered down in the bathroom, food, water and long wait for it to come and pass, its going to be a long night for my family. (and all others affected)

My niece and nephew are up there with their father, my sister is beside herself with worry. I just hope by some miracle the full extent of the winds somehow follows a path that spares as many as possible.

Hang in there and keep as safe as you can, all of Australia is holding their breath for you.

Great to hear it wasn't as damaging as it could have been. The kids in Townsvillle had an exciting night but no damage to the house they were in. They said the powerpoles were bending over so the wind was certainly strong, the brother in law estimated 200km/h.

The aussie press, especially that dickhead Kochie need their asses kicked, they were hoping for a disaster, this morning they would have loved nothing more than devastation, so now they have to blow their chests up and dramatise the bejeseez out of it. Meanwhile, some Aussie kids in Afghanistan were killed I think, I never got to see the story because Grant Denyer was reporting about a tree across the road, c'mon!

Yer Kochie really stuffed up there. Anna said last night the wave measurer off T'ville turned upside down and was inacurrately reading 18m waves and to ignore it. Guess what he reported the wave height was off T'ville this morning.

jeez i saw some dumb comments by the media over the last 24 hours.

news.com.au referred to 50 m/s as 50 miles/second
channel 10 reported the cyclone moving at 300km/hr
abc said, now from the floods to egypt during their news coverage
