Hello Sailors!!!

First let me introduce myself and give you some background.

I'm a 62 year old child and started sailing at the ripe old age of 40

while living in the Hunter Valley NSW.

My sailing was flat water and my main spot was Lake Macquarie NSW

(I only recently learned of the tragic and far too early demise of Andrew Regan.

I also sailed Caloundra Golden beach and Currumbin offshore.

We moved to Ningi in '06 and a difficult family committment

kept me off the water since then.

As Fast Eddie and Arnold famously said "I'M BACK!"

Well, I was and then I found the rats had eaten the luff of my 8.5 XT2,

the 7.1 XT was as brittle as an eggshell and the mast bases were perished.

My collection now requires a substantial capital infusion.

I have recently purchased (used) a 10 Retro, 8.5 NX a 6.6 Koncept

I also still have a 7.0 Koa, 6.2 Pulse 5.2 Revo and 4.6 Hokua.

My three boards are a Thommen XXL,

a Mistral Explosion and a Drops flex tail.

I'm about 5gk overweight (85kg) and have very little sailing fittness but hopefully

will remedy this in the coming month or two.

I'm still after a boom for the 10 Retro and a Deep Tuttle weed for the Thommen

XXL and seagrass that seems to grow in abundance here.

Enough about me, What I need to know are the best sailing spots close to Bribie

so I can zip out for an hour or two without driving 3/4 of an hour each way!

When I had to stop sailing my ability was only limited by flat water experience as

I had decided that wavesaing would be too heavy and expensive on gear.

Any help and advise on local conditions and hazards would be most appreciated.

Of course I would be willing to travel to where sailors favourite North Brissie

spots are too.

Hey bud, glad your getting back into it. Sailed of Bribie a few times from a park on the sw side of the Island. Great sailing but deep water, go about 2k's out for some sizeable swell to play with. Beachmere is pretty close to you, safe and shallow ( just watch your fin ). Redcliffe isnt too much of a drive, great for bump and jump but it can be a handfull at times especially if your not windsurfing fit ( as iam)

G,day mate. I have always sailed there. It is my fav spot in a s/se. Run out tide is best (wind against tide), but safety a consideration. I'm going to check it out this morning, even though it's run in. If the wind is gone, I'll sail the long board.(Desperate.)Hope to see you there one day. Cheers Darren.

Went to Bribie, Bongaree. Wind wasn't up. Rigged up our Windsurfer One-Design's for a play. Ended up sailing to Redcliffe. About two hours each way. Really enjoyable, but very sore and tired. Better than twiddling thumbs or working.

My folks have just brought a place at Bribie, (I am on the Sunnie Coast) so suspect I will be out there as well when conditions are suitable.

Few hours of sailing, then some of moms cooking! Sounds like a plan.

I pretty much have short board stuff, JP boards and Maui Sails gear, plus a Kona one.

Hi Peter, Just giving you heads up. Going to Bribie today, leaving shortly. I will be sailing from Bongaree, the most southern end of the passage, where the lagoon is. I should be there around 11.00AM. It will be incoming tide till about 3.00PM. Will have to point to windward against tide till then but not a problem. Nice and safe.

If you have a short board gear sail at Woorim. Perfect side shore in SE conditions!

Other advantage is that in a big swell it's smaller than elsewhere because sheltered by tip of Moreton Island. Or a perfect re/introduction to windsurfing in waves.

Sail anywhere north North St. with a gentle shelving beach and to reduce the influence of bay inlet tides. Semi sheltered grass rigging and short carry over dune access paths.

Off the beaten track for Brisbane windsurfers as it takes about the same time to get to Caloundra. Therefore not many people go there. A group meet might be a good way to get a crowd together and a few more to try this nice spot out.

Look at wind readings for Spitfire Channel and they are pretty close (often windier than Redcliffe?)

both pretty good spots to be honest although different conditions. but if you're judging them purley on windspeed alone then bribie gets the nod as redcliffe has nothing on bribie in a s-sw wind. bribie in a s-sw wind is as strong as it gets for the northern bay.

bribie also has flat water speed sailing. nothing at reddy,
bribie has real wave sailing, reddy is almost wave sailing.

but reddy is a great spot to sail also. rates up at the top of my list.

waricle if you are looking to build up your windsurfing muscles again then pebble beach in a SE wind at high tide is one of the best speed spots around.

yep i'm still alive, haven't been on the water for a while though. been hanging out at the under 8's netball courts and the under 4's skate park

i will never go to the darkside

not meaning to snipe the thread but still taking my camera around with me.
