Locosys has concluded testing of the new Alpha Racing Firmware (V1.2A0314B) for the GW60 GPS watch. This new version of the firmware significantly upgrades the functionality and usability of the GW60. They have specifically released this firmware so that it is available for contestants at Burrum Windfest 2017. The following Dropbox has the firmware pack. The pack includes:
- New firmware file, use the existing GW60 updater to upload onto your watch
- Release note which details the history of changes to the firmware during testing
- Watch set-up config instructions for the new features
- Installer for the new Utility for Log file downloading and watch configuration. Note this only works with Window's PCs

Exert from the Sailing Instructions:

13. SCORING
13.1 Speeds will be calculated using with KA72 speedreader software.
13.2 In the case of a tie, the best result on count back will be used. Judges' decision is final.
13.3 To request correction of an alleged error in the posted races or series results, a competitor shall request in writing a Scoring Enquiry at Speed HQ.
13.4 Divisions as below Competitors can only enter one division (Age as of 1st January 2017)
- Open 20-44 years - Overall, 5x10, Nautical Mile, 2 sec, 1 hour
- Masters 45-59 years - Overall, 5x10, Nautical Mile, 2 sec, 1 hour
- Legends 60 + years - Overall, 5x10, Nautical Mile, 2 sec
- Women - 5x10, Nautical Mile, 2 sec
- Youth Under 19 - 2 sec peak
13.5 Rashies
1. The Rashie division in the competition will show results from the previous day only
2. The colours in the Rashie division depend on your DOB recorded in your ka72 account. DOB with a year of 1957 (for the 2017 competition) or earlier will appear red, and later DOB will appear yellow.
3. Each day's score is based on adding together the results from the day (a bit like a GP5 without the Alpha) 1hr + 2Sec + 5x10 + NM
4. The highest Red and Yellow scores for each day win the Red and Yellow rashie for the next day

Please check this information with the current sailing instructions that are on KA 72. Some of the information is incorrect and comes from a draft version.

Current sailing instructions and any amendments will be discussed at the Race briefings.

Yes you can, Just need to come to Race HQ - "Sea Spray" house nearest the Boat ramp so a briefing can be run through first.
Morning Briefings will be at 9am each day and soon after that the race crew will be heading to the course area to set up so "special briefings" would have to occur prior to 10am each day or after 6pm-ish at night.

Note
Could effect potential overall results for event though - results may be calculated Daily to contribute to Overall. (This is still in discussion)

Grrrr, don't want to say anything. A lot of "if's". On the up-side, at least I've got a few more day's to get everything done.
The weather map's are all over the place at the moment. Who'd wanna guess?

Trying to be positive looking at Burrum 2012 it was if I remember the same sort of weather pattern leading up to the Windfest and it did turn out ok. Not so good was the trip up as many of us got stuck in the floods around Gympie but it turned out to be worth the trip.

Hi Salt Flavored Speed People,

Off topic in some ways but speed under sail has been a hot subject for hundreds of years, formal racing or mainly just two craft under sail on a similar bearing.
One of the Australian speed icons of yesteryear I am told is (after this major refit) to very soon be under going trials at Burrum.

"Bullfrog" many moons ago shattered the Trans Tasman. This is decades before "Yellow Pages" or "Maquarie Inovation".
Granted Sandy Point and Burrum have little in common with a Trans Tasman except speed.

Bullfrog looks (under good conditions) to be good for way more than 35 knts.

There may be a request for next year's event to include multi hull sailing paraphernalia.

Good speed to all for the meet this year,

plev

Gooday plev,
interesting times In bullfrog.
Easy to discount the seriously outstanding advances made when we just look at the latest speed by windsurfers.
The innovations and dedication of speed sailors' progression we take for granted thru the purchase of the latest board or sail is a reflection of the design, research, proving, and competition results over many iterations of a design programme dedicated to make a turkey like you or I look good ??

Gooday waricle,

Sorry man, you've lost me. I thought my post pointed to some iconic Aussie speed sailing gear of yesteryear, nothing more.
