Just to clarify because I am a dummy, do you mean the east side or west side of Wello? 'Cos I thought that if you had any troubles you'd get blown towards the point if you sailed on the western side in a SW/W wind?

Either but need high tide really for the right hand side as you look out to sea or any tide is good for the left hand side which would be east i guess

More confused Do you sail in the little bay created by the point, ie to the west of the point (left side, west side) or on the Straddie Is side of the point? Sorry, I did say I was a dummy!

You can sail both sides, " the little bay" in a 20 SW will probably have >1 meter chop - I prefer the eastern side in a SW because it is very flat compared to the western side. I am pretty lousy at judging distance but I would say that there is about 100 meter wide strip along most of the eastern bank that is <1.5 meters deep at high tide.

& sthandy

the left side of the sand bar will be sailable but choppy for all of the day today (you will need to walk out with your gear a bit to get to deep water)

the right hand side will be sailable for aprox 2 hours each side of the high tide (3.30pm -ish today) and will be much flatter than the left side. It's generally knee to chest deep for much of it

might see you there

Parking will be a problem today. Weekend/sunny/ and Mothers day.
Despite that I'm heading over there now.

Good to see you decided to have a sail. I guess you found a car park in the end?
