The plans for the upcoming season is to race slalom every second Sunday, starting around the 2.00pm (notice will follow when calendar is finalised)

It was felt that any sailors that are keen on formula or race boards could attend the Saturday races with RQYS or Darling Point. RQYS does allow for sailors to attend races without being members for a certain period. Pat Obrien or Wayne Ballie can give you more information

One of the main problems our club has is the manning of the boat, we need Two people per race day. So a few alternatives will be open to members.

1. We build a roster so once a season you are the office of the day , you can get other people to do it but you have to organise 2 people for boat duties
2. We find two people that we can pay a nominal amount for the running of the boat say $100 for the day
3. We cancel racing , THIS IS NOT IDEAL . But if we can not get everybody to share the load it might just happen

What are the boat duties

• Help launch the boat.
• One of the race directors will help you set the course
• Start races and record results
• Retrieve the buoys and boat
• You will receive average point for the Bayside series

Baby and wife permitting I'd be quite happy to help out with the boat although I have no idea how to launch a boat never mind drive one but I'm game to try.

I'm with option 1.
I believe a lot of other clubs operate in this fashion.
Besides, average points is better than my usual result!!

I am keen to help with boat duties on regular basis.
I have a boat license and my own tinnie, i.e. plenty of experience in Moreton bay.
I live in Lota and can get to all the main launch areas in minutes.

My two bobs worth is that it could also be good to pay someone like lee & hobie14t. Hopefully the right persons will enjoy doing it and get a small return from it too. If we get 15 sailors who pay $15 each that would be over $200 to pay the crew. I think around $15 to $20 for a course/start/finish/rescue etc is a bargain.

Option 1 works best if everyone attends on a similar basis. What happens with the members that only make it to one or two races? I will probably only be free for every second weekend for instance. Happy to help out if necessary though.
It also means one or two fewer sailors on the water too which is a factor.

Another option could be a combination where the members help to get the boat ready and lay the course etc but are given time to make it to the start. While the start/finish duties are handled by a non sailing helper.

Would anybody know the average turn out last year?

I think paying the helpers/volunteers introduces complications in terms of , are they then employees/staff or 'contractors' ? etc
I am prepared to volunteer on a regular basis because I have sailed in clubs my whole life and just love being on the water in any way possible. I think the boat guys need to have an interest in the sport and for the continuity of the sport.
I'm not a good windsurfer and cant really compete in slalom races, so I would be very happy to do boat duties and perhaps have an attempt in a race on the odd occasion.
Perhaps if club membership can be discounted....that would be nice :)
