Somebody wise once said Seabreeze for Northerlies and BOM for Southerlies. I tend to agree.

i am pretty sure they all get the info after watching the 6pm news.............and then go to the pub and have a laugh at all the windsurfers, kites, charter boats doing nothing.

does wind come off a low at 45 degrees-ish like it does with a high? maybe it really will have some east in it?

Nope wind goes into a low, but angle of the dangle I'm not sure, probably varies with spacing of isobars and central pressure.

That wind map is completely at odds with the forecast for Moreton Bay - at least strength-wise.

Moreton Bay Waters:
Friday until midnight: Wind: W/SW 15/20 knots. Sea: 1 metre.
Saturday: Wind: W/SW 15/20 knots. Lighter winds inshore early. Sea: 1 metre.
Sunday: Wind: SW 15/20 knots.
Monday: Wind: SW/SE 15/25 knots

Wind flows clockwise around a low and anticockwise around a high.

the wind maps on the bom site are computer models without human intervention.

the written forecast is the human version after looking at the models.

bom uses ecmwf models up until 2 days out and then uses it's own models. that's why sometimes you can get a big change 48 hours to go.

with the land models foreast wind maps it switches 24 hours out.
www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/wind/index.jsp

i think the changing direction is the influence of the land heating up. so a southerly will kick SSE-SE as the day progresses and a northerly with kick NE etc.
