Will be there starting Wednesday from Adelaide and I hear Suffolk Park is good. Keen on advice as I haven't wavesailed up that way. My big gear is 99 litre board, 5.7 and 5.3 sails and I am 80kg. Bit worried as my last 3 trips to east coast I took gear and just got Coffs Harbour on shore dribbles.

Tomorrow we should all be sailing at Flat Rock which is just north of Ballina.
We'll be there from around 11am, park quite near to the caravan park entrance, then its a little walk. Will be sailing south side of the rock, and tide is going down until 12 so should not be too mad. Actually just read it and you are here from Wednesday.
Not sure what the winds doing next week.

A few people sail the Pass at Byron Bay but thats because it's close to where they live and is convenient.
In a North westerly it can be onshore and pretty busy dodging surfers but with good jumping in the bay on the swell.
Some sail at Suffolk park in a southerly.

Flat Rock is a point break and can have some cleaner waves and isn't that hard to sail. Sail there in a southerly on the north side and in a north easterly on the south side.

Further North, Brunswick Heads can be good but can have a strong rip running with the wind and can be harder to get out.

In a Southwesterly with the tide pushing in the River at Ballina can be great, theres no where else to sail as its offshore but you can get a wave to turn off, Park at Shores bay, then go for a beer at the pub afterwards.

Westerly sail at the water slides in Ballina next to the sailing club, tide coming in is best.

Fingal head is further north and can be good in a dead northerly.

What Madge said, also if you are sailing from the Pass beware at "Middle Reef" as it will suck dry on a low tide if the swell is big enough

If you are still up this way we might sail Flat Rock tomorrow.

There's heap of wind forecast for Monday, like over 30 knots with a large swell, so Ballina River may be good launching from just South of the skate park from the sand spit.
