Gday everyone,

The forecast has been all over the place this week but seems to have settled over the past day into a NW swinging to SW wind on Saturday.

THE ***GPS*** EVENT IS RELOCATED TO PRIMBEE, LAKE ILLAWARRA. This does not apply to the wave/sup events.

Registration 10am at the Primbee carpark (end of Bundah Place). Look for the yellow stormriders trailer.

Registration is $20 for the day or $40 for the weekend.

The sailing area will be defined by the boundary of the lake (ie sail anywhere you like). A weed fin is not required to sail the body of the lake, only the shallow speed runs. People may sail in this shallow part of the lake at their own risk.

Location for Sunday will be confirmed on Saturday.

All the GPS sailors are invited (and encouraged) to the combined GerroaFest party at Gerroa Fishermans Club on Saturday night. This should be huge and will be plenty of prizes etc.

Is there a closing time for registrations?
Is the timing of the two x half hour 'races' already decided or will it depend on conditions, and perhaps when the southerly pushes through?

A Le-Mans start from the beach at Primbee will be interesting!!! We'll be puffing and panting by the time we reach water deep enough to get going in!!

Hey guys looking forward to meeting a few Speedsters and Gustbusters this weekend.

Please remember to charge your GPS fully and also make sure you have it set up with a 2GB memory card or smaller. This was costly for a few guys at the last event where their tracks didn't get recorded.

Eckas, we set the rego at 10 as with the early NW wind forecast we might be sailing straight away. However no stress if you cant get there early - come down whenever you can and we can get your details etc at the end of the day.

The idea is to do several rounds during the day (1/2 hr and 1 hr starting simultaneously). If there's wind we'll just keep sailing!

And check out this handy tip from the Marauders crew(thanks guys). It works a treat so make sure you're running with daylight saving time on your device as this is what we'll be running from this wk end.

"If you want to set your GT-31 to Day-Light savings time. ( NSW users ) Go to Settings Menu / Time Zone / +Others / then select +11:00 Remember to that the correct time will adjust once it makes Satellite connect".

An amazing day at Primbee today. Stacks of wind interspersed with dead calm, thunderstorm (s) and huge downpours.

Primbee was firing and local speedster MT showed us how it was done cracking a 40 during the freerace.

Southerly has come in now so we will meet back at the same place at 10am Sunday to hopefully run two more races.

Thanks to everyone who came along and let's hope for good wind again tomorrow.

Yes thank you all for coming. Second day(Sunday) a bit of a fizzier in the end, but that's windsurfing for ya. We had 16 guys register over the wk end which was great, especially for a first time event at Primbee. Hope to do it all again next year locally so cheers to MT and the other local guys for attending and giving us the heads up on where to sail. Cheers to James for his organisation and the Marmong crew also for making the trek down, always good to work with you guys. Can't wait to the 6th on Botany, should be awesome!

I've had a few questions about how the freerace is scored.

For each race we define a 30 minute window. On Saturday these periods were 12:15-12:45pm and 1:45pm-2:15pm.

The KA72 software pulls out the data from the GPS files for these periods, then calculates the total distance travelled in each. From there, it can calculate the average speed during the half hour.

The winner is the sailor with the highest average speed over the 30 minute period. See attached screenshots of the distance travelled by each sailor in the two races. Hope this helps explain the scoring.

I should also mention that Christian sailed very fast but unfortunately his GPS wasnt set up properly (interval set to 0 sec) so it didn't log his data.

Wow very surprised to win I thought MT with a run over 40 knots was super impressive.
How close was round 2 nothing in it.
Well done to all who came and had fun, the event organisers and of course Windsurf and Snow much appreciated.

I thought Justin's effort was pretty good. He was in the rough water the whole time when, believe me, it was hard to keep going even in the flat stuff. I think you should do that all the time Justin.

Crazy day huh...Might be the most extreme weather i can ever remember in Aussie.
Certainly plenty of wind!!!!
I know my boy had the best day flying around in the vast amount of knee deep water and 20+ knots of wind...

I few of us that didn't bring or own smaller fins had to sail in the deeper and significantly rougher water, which was a ton of fun, but not ideal for speed/distance calculations. I think my top speed for the day was 26knots vs Byron and Trollope at 40knots in the shallows.

Lake Illawarra certainly delivered some epic conditions (Saturday)...I was great to see so many locals and Victorian's come along to compete and/or just sail.
I can't help but think that some GPS units for sale on the day, would easily double the results page as i think I counted about 50 people on the water, and most of them were really fast....
Looking forward to the 3rd event back in Kyeemagh, Botany Bay, Sydney on Saturday 6th Dec (or Sunday 7th, depending on weather)....

I'm thinking a BBQ, Music and beer afterwards if it is sunny might be the next step?
