Tell Reg It's blowing 30 knots at Gerroa (@6:20), I think we'll get some wind.

Well what can I say, Lake illawarra does it again. This place for a westerly is what Gerroa is for a nor'easter, I wouldn't say it's the best wind in the world but it's a whole lot of fun. I think we had anything from 5-40 knots today and sometimes all of that in the space of a few minutes. Me, Not being from the speed sailing crew just take my wave board out for a cruise but with the lack of weed these days it's turning into B&J heaven. I spent about 40 mins on my 5.8 at 9am this morning doing nortical mile runs from Windang to the jetty then changed down to my 5.0 and headed into the open water for some jumps and just sailed until my arms were being torn from my body with the ever increasing wind....This place is sick. We would have had 15 sailors today and one tea-bagger (that's about the correct ratio) and a few more arriving for the late afternoon as the rest of us packed up after a full-on day.

Everyone should experience this

Peel wasn't as strong as predicted but still 15-25kts and super flat! Heaps out .
Some even made the trip from Port Macquarie to sail there!

Sailed at airport runway yesterday. Only three of us out. Started off pretty good and about 22 to 26 knots rigged a 6.5m Had a few good runs for an hour and a bit, wind really came in gusted up to about 37knots looking at the graph. Struggled to get back to beach. Pretty good speed run with a good bear away parallel to runway but a bit of swell was coming in about halfway down the run.

I made a short video from Peel St yesterday. Sorry for the quality and lack of music etc etc but gives an idea of the smooth water once the wind backed off late afternoon.

It was a great day to be out on the water James sorry you miss the strong wind we had earlier! Johnny's 37knot 2 sec peak was well earned!
Here is a shot from Russ of Mick, Wayno, Paul and Frothie!

which part of the runway, I was in foreshore drive on saturday. Unfortunately, my sail has torn apart after falling into water and I cannot sail anymore
I saw one dude sailing over there at around 1pm

If going South East on Botany road turn right into Foreshore Rd. First left is the container terminal, second left the boat ramp and the third left is a small car park where the head of the arrow is. It has changed a bit since the construction of Hayes dock and there are a lot of buoys there now. One is marking an exclusion area about 320 metres from the face of the dock and there is a line of yellow buoys strictly enforced by airport security near the runway.

It was me, i saw you taking off from the boat ramp, that is the wrong place to launch. Dean's map should point you to the right spot. Also beware that close to the boat ramp there are sharp rocks in the water. Close to the launch instead it's safe. For your sail you can contact Barracouta 02 9525 7626 , 5/55 Willarong Road, Caringbah. Replacing one panel will cost you about $50.

Damn that looks fun on big gear. What size fin you using in the big gear that day James? I have just obtained a delta slalom 24 I got off MArk to have a run and see how it goes in thick weed and shallow water. Lot of G10 and heavy as a bastard this fin - must be better options

Hey Adam it was a 45 deg 26cm fin that I borrowed from Bruce. Could feel the weed dragging at the tip most of the time so a delta would be the go. Matt D kindly offered to let me borrow his delta but I was already set up with the 26. Next time!

Greg k uses a 22 delta on similar size board (68 wide) and loves it. Apparently Greg F is making carbon fins in a delta shape but reworked foil which are a lot lighter and fast.

Karl interesting you mention water ski flat. Looking back at my wake was pretty surreal and looked a lot like a boat wake as it was so uniform.

I wish the water was deeper at Budgewoi where the water is flat. If the Seabreeze forecast next weekend is for real, that is a big if, I think I'll sail at Canton Beach, just for the feeling sailing in deeper water.

Yep, where it is flattest is also where there is the least water depth. Less than 30 cm in some spots. If you get off the plane you can feel the delta fins touching the sand in the really flat sections!!
Does not inspire confidence in some sailors. But it is flat!!!

yeah, peely is shallower than canton, but with a delta on, which dont work as well at canton because its deeper, hence choppier, i've never had a catapult at peely
at canton on normal weedies, ive had heaps of catapults

sooooooo, im saying although canton is deeper, your more prone to catapults than at peely because of fin choice

i wish the water was a little bit lower at peely.........and canton

Wish the water was lower at Canton but then most of Peely would probably be too shallow to use. Canton wasn't very flat at all last time ( compared to it at its best or Peel st.

Canton last weekend - 10-20kts and this was in a lull so there was a bit of chop in close ( more further out and W) - not as flat as I remember it when the water level was lower.

Peel st showing the the difference the weed makes to the chop.( or lack of chop.. ).
