I just heard now of the passing of a legend that would have touched so many people in the windsurfing community, and I am immensely sad.
Johnny is part of my windsurfing history , and stands out for his personality so extreme and never boring.
I have both been helped and abused by Johnny during the years, please share your stories and photos if you have, let's keep his memory alive.

He certainly was a very colorful man and he'll be missed. I have had many good times with Milsy, his passing came as a shock and is very sad. My love to Lydia...
Rest in peace mate...

A man of many personalities. I loved listening to the stories of his childhood on Scotland Island and his times in the US Army.
I'll always remember that cheeky little smile.

I was very saddened to hear of Johnny's death. Used to love the chats we had before and after sailing about anything and everything. Johnny had an opinion on just about it all. His stats speak enormously of his talent and dedication to the sport.
When he was on one of his PB attempts it was best to keep out of his way and not have a chat while out there. Then after coming in it was time to debrief what he had achieved. We used to discuss the merits of some of the great boxers of modern times, and Johnny used to do a lot of sparing and even had a pro bout which Mick attended for moral support.
He also had a great love of animals, especially horses and cats. He was a unique man of many talents.
I wish Lydia all the best in this difficult time.
Vale Johnny Miller RIP.

Really sad to hear and my thoughts go out to Lydia. I first met John and Lydia at Sandy Point speedfortnight and really enjoyed their company . I loved John's passion for sailing, horses and the telling of a great story. He had survived a lot of stuff and yes he could upset you and write some awful stuff when he was hurt but I will miss the cheeky smile and the passion that he brought. RIP John

Oh geez. Millsy. No. So sorry for his family. A man with a magnetic personality. When he was in the right frame of mind he could entertain us all for hours and was beloved by most. When I first came to Budgie he was King of the crowd, greeting all the newbies with a kind word and advice on gear. Always outstanding and almost machine like in his consistancy on the water.
Condolences to the Central Coast Maurauders. (Thanks for the pic, Andy)

RIP Johnny. I was always glad to think of you as a friend. You were an enthusiastic, wild and sometimes angry guy, but under that flammable exterior you were a kind and generous person. You had some deep scars that life had inflicted and they still caused you pain. All of that is over now. That flame has gone out. RIP.

So sorry to hear that. Best wishes to Lydia.
I used to enjoy his camaraderie.
I remember I accidentally locked my van with the keys in the back behind the cargo barrier in my jacket.
I had the key to open it but couldn't drive without the one in the rear.
I had a vw caddy with a cargo barrier that had a small hole. The board noses would poke through and there wasn't much space to get through the hole.
I had my wet wetsuit on so Milsy crawled through over the top of everything, squeezed through the hole and got my keys. There was much laughter and stirring.
I took a photo but I probably won't find it.
Here's one from 2015

Heard about this a couple of weeks ago. shocked, yep. used to race him at Canton a lot, couldn't catch him. Then he got serious about personal best and didn't see much of him. Bloody funny bloke and hyperactive. Sadly missed.

I found the pic where he was getting the keys from my van. My memory was wrong . He crawled in from through the rear door.

He was a flawed genius with extraordinary skills and talent. I think of Johnny every time I go to Peel St. for a sail. Loved his winter hats he wore.
