Where is parking and launch for the great Pittwater?

Is it much affected by tide, needs outgoing with NE'r for example, or negligible?

Looks a beautiful spot.

Not affected by tidal flow as such but most of the beaches/ launch areas are tidal sandflats, and so it can be a long walk at low tide (and sometimes a bit muddy).

Windsurfing on Pittwater has always had a parking issue but if you plan a bit you can get around it.

Traditionally windsurfers have used Sandy Point at the end of Nabila Street Palm Beach in a Southerly and Governor Philip park in Nor'easters but you will have to pay for parking in the park or be prepared for a long walk. A few free spots in the streets near Sandy Point but they fill quick.

Some not quite traditional launch spots include Taylor's Point in Avalon and BYRA sailing club in Bayview. Both have somewhat limited but free parking. Bayview scout hall is another but again, not much parking.

Digest that for now, I'll add some more if I think of them...

Actually, on Google maps, the little alleyway down to Sandy Point looks like an extension of Woorak Road but you can't drive down Woorak. Drive down Nabilla and along Iluka until you get to the road down to the boat ramp.

RPAYC at Newport have a beautiful rigging area, a combo of manicured lawn & artificial turf. Parking is painful. Palm Beach Sailing Club sail out of Sand Point off Iluka Road as Jethrow noted above. I've rigged & launched off Pittwater Park, Barrenjoey road. Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know the link to an online anemometer in Pittwater? The closest one I've seen is at Long Reef organised by the hang gliding club. holfuy.com/en/weather/177%C2%A0 It would be handy to know the wind strength & direction on Pittwater before heading north.

Yeah, I've given up even bothering to try and go sailing on the weekend now due to the parking hassles. Ha, 30 years ago I used to be peeved if I didn't get the golden spot immediately next to the rigging area and had to carry my gear 20 meters. I even remember parking out the front of Joe's milk bar at Cronulla in the 80's.

@regal1 This is about the closest we have to weather information on Pittwater. It's an amateur net setup by a Qantas pilot I believe.

Opps, haven't checked in for a while.

Yeah there were a few of us out Saturday morning doing LT training up the southern end (RPAYC) and a few ventured out after lunch as well. The Palm Beach LT guys were up at Toukley for a regatta Sunday.

I hope there were some shortboards out Saturday arvo from Sand Point? Would have been great conditions.
