Crazy conditions at the SIRS regatta only 4 guys came back for more torture after Saturday. There was me and Brett and the two young legend Danish guys.
Now I know the object of the racing game is to win, but sometimes you have to be realistic. These three other guys are arguably or probably the best guys in Australia at Formula at the moment. I had wishful thinking of finishing on the podium with two of these guys, that was my goal! 10 or 15 years ago I did actually finish 3rd at SIRS in the Olympic class but due to a error I wasn't awarded my prize.

So I was out to miraculously somehow set it right and relive my moment at age 44, LOL.
Here is my recount of how it went down for me.
The conditions were forecasted to get to 30knots!! A absolute black nor easter!!! Sebastian and I looked at each other before we went out and yes we were both freaking out a little bit. Sebastian had only a 11m to use where as I had full storm gear.
I should say Sebastian and Christian got to bed 5 or 6 hours after me the night before due to a
full on party right up the far end of the Northern Beaches!! I think this is good for my chances.
Anyway the first race starts and finishes and I manage to come last.

Surprisingly the wind has back right off. Before the next race I shift the mast base back and change the HLines and a few other things trying to power it up.
I do the sums and for me to get third I believe I have to get 2nd and Brett has to come 4th. Its highly improbably I think to myself but you have to try.
The last race starts.
At the first downwind gate Brett is 2nd and Im 3rd and Christian is 4th. Brett goes through the gate and rounds out heading out to the favoured side of the course. I have no option but to gybe through the gate and go out on starboard tack which I think looks pretty good anyway. No point in following. Christian goes with me!! WOW! So now Im thinking if the left side works out and if I stay in front of Christian and will have done it and got third overall! And that is what I did!!! I had to sail super hard on the last very fast downwind to stay in front of Christian. Going across the line I thought of that Maxwell Smart Best day of my life scene. Check it out.
