For people out there that haven't been to our Teams Event, I thought the following information might be useful. It is a really open, fun and also slightly competitive wave event. Ultimately it is the best way for you to try a NSWWA event where you will be placed in a team (from your region and as such you should know some of the faces) and your team mates can explain how the whole thing works including competition/heat strategy.
The format depends on the wind/wave situation but ideally it is:

Teams Event over 1-2hrs (depending on how many we people we get)

Typically golden oldies/kids/women score a higher multiplier on their wave score - to encourage participation.

Teams are organised on the beach and judges set up, they don't usually compete (to keep it fair).

One member from each team heads out and has an opportunity to score a wave and jump.

If you think you've had a cracking, can't be bettered wave you claim it by sticking your hand up. The number of waves you get to claim depends on wind strength.

Once you have claimed the right number of waves you come in, tag your team mate, give them your rashvest and they head out.

It's then a correlation of the wave scores.
It is a lot of fun! We (Northern Beaches) have hired a house and are getting some practice in - not because we're super serious but it's a great excuse to get out and down to Gerroa!
The day is finished with the awesome end of season BBQ and beers.
The cost for people that haven't signed up for the season is $30 which covers your entry fee, insurance, BBQ and beers.
If you have been thinking of competiting this season or previous seasons but weren't 100% sure about it all, then this is the the best way to experience it!
Cheers
PS - sorry about the

- I don't know how to do bullet points! PPS a lot of the format can change on the day due to the wind and wave situation...
