do you ride a fin that gives you you a bit more lift than you feel comfotable with and just push your self and that gives you a bit more were it counts. riding the fin as in other topic i think is were the fast numbers are or are or we just crazy!

Its a good question Stroppo, I'll let others more technically minded answer. But I did hear some discussion where the angle you were travelling in relation to the wind was important, and that when you are sailing in strong winds very broad, that fin lift is not as critical, that you are really trying to mimimize drag, eg trimming the board with least skin friction, and it appears as if you are just sailing on the fin??

Stroppo,

It's not really worth worrying about as all you need to sail fast is a decent speed fin and a good steady, flat board trim, but if you must worry have a look at this nightmare discussion. It's full of a lot of hot air so be careful what you believe. Generally I like to believe the fast guys...

Numbers don't lie stroppo, and your numbers are starting to talk for themselves! Whatever you're doing it's working.
Maybe when/if we get better conditions you can do some experimenting with smaller less draggy fins deep down wind, and let us know.

I think the affect may vary with sailing angle.

Riding the fin in Flat water .. deep down wind .. is the best
and I wish I could do just that
but in general/normal Bump and Jump conditions that most of us sail in
i like a fin that gives a bit more lift.. feels like I'm riding a bit higher and faster
even thou (later) my GPS don't back that up..
sometimes it's more about the "Feel" and enjoy the moment
than the Speed
