trouble with my carbon cedar fins, is I can't let them wear down to the timber, so every second/third session at Hardie's run requires a minor tip repair.
Not sure how it will work out, but here's the start of an attempt to stretch the time between repairs.

Of course when it does need repairing it's going to be a bigger job!!!

Any body got some spare tungsten???

What's the grey material on the tip of the fin under the fibreglass?

Woops, sorry senior moment, labeled it in "photos" but not here.

This is why I prefer G10 and not Carbon

Da weed is abrasive

So is da sand

And da rocks

Crabs and fish can just dent da fins

G10 ya can sand

with any luck stainless won't need sanding, for a while anyway.

The weed rubbing on the stainless will generate heat and start the water boiling which will lead to cavitation

Not to mention the spots where you and Hardie sail through are generally only about 6-8 inches deep.

Hmmm... (thinks to self)

A bit of stainless up close to the root of the fin, sharpened, would work wonders on some craypot lines...

Be interesting to see how long yours lasts before it rusts, anyway.

won't get a chance to rust!!!! That weed will keep it well polished.

Nup, that's the main problem, it doesn't wear sharp, wouldn't be so bad if it did instead it wears blunt. Means more drag and more chance of cavitation.
