having had a great sail @ mandurah today... (why so few ppl there?) i finished my last run, then noticed recording was off on the gps.... now normally this really wouldnt matter that much.... but with the gps showing 82.8nm (153km) as the total distance its kinda something i would like to post... so the question is:

Is the data off the gps display, at least distance, suitable for posting?

I have a photo of the gps's display with 82.8(dist) 16.2(mov.avg), 5:06(mov.time), and both my dad and hardie can vouch for the fact that i did sail, (my dad marked uni papers all day) so i would assume the distance is verifyable? also had a 34.3 max... but reset the max speed, so no proof of that...

anyways any advice on whether or not i can post the distance would be appreciated.. (perhaps knock off 3ks to account for "garmin fluxuations"?)

posted the distance minus 3ks just in case the garmin is inaccurate.. i dont really feel i should post the max speed as i have no record of it... hopefully no strong objections?

none at all from me Tim, but you are starting a precedent, in the past other people have done the same thing (his name begins with B) and not posted, even thou he had a pb in there. But then I think he sailed alone and didn't have anybody to verify he sailed, or photos of his display.
Have you checked the "rules" on the gpsteamchallenge site, if you can't see any problem there, it should be fine.

just to set the record straight. That day my garmin didnt record my tracks i sailed with hardie and Elmo at hardies run. i got PB max display of 37.3knts and had three runs before it of 36.7knts.

Think you just have to cop it on the chin.

Since that day i always check after the first run that the garmin is recording tracks. You can see the lines in the tracks page.

i now have a navi.

Scoring/Results:

Results will be continually updated on the internet website each month. (A month is enough of a period to give hopefully suitable condions for all, and one session per category per month is a way of avoiding data overload). Winning team/s each month can have bragging rights for that month. Verification of results, needs to be possible, therefore each team members session results needs to be available for scrutiny. (This may be requested at random, or all results need to be forwarded to event organiser at end of the month). Ensure that a printed hard copy is kept of each team members session or a data file be kept of each session on your computer. Monthly scores are summed (added) for the number of months the competition runs.

So I guess as Bender says, "cop it on the chin" or ask Hardy and Nebian for a ruling.

hmmmm..... not sure how clear is.... GPSSS uses display as a category... and technically distance isnt a speed.... though the reference to software kinda seems to infer that track data is required..

perhaps the 'rules comittee' could clear this up..?

decrep, i didnt think it was a precedent when i posted (oops)- thought kato might have posted his 174 km session off the navi display on 'The Pit Crew - 2007-06-30'... but looking at the session it seems a gps track was used. Anyways ive taken my post offline to avoid any precedent-setting
