Hi Crew does anyone know ifs its possible to find a lost gps by the satellites picking it up if is still turned on.
can this be done through locosoys or something else.

lost mine last Thursday at LG in 30 knot winds and sailed around for 2 hours looking for it but no luck.
went for a ride on the dirtbike sat arvo and low and behold I found it washed up on the spit one happy Jimbob.
all dry in the pack and turned on and said low battery so charged up back home took out the card to see its travels.
seems when I changed the arm I had it on lost it straight away...Duh my fault.

To answer your initial question, no. You can't track it. The satellites don't even know the GPS (receiver) exists. The GPS receives the signals from the satellites and uses this to work out where it is in relation the satellites.

The GPS itself does not transmit anything.

Very interesting. Ain't it great when you find something that was lost?
What distance did it cover?

It travelled about 4 kms but if it when through the gap at the islands and missed the spit you could add another 10 ks.

You may as well check to see if MH370 is there somewhere too!
