if they can do 46 knots in the Atlantic imagine what they can do in flat water!!

I guess we should be assuming at least some slight wave assistance but even then it is mind bogglingly, stupendously, amazingly fast!!!

Questions that spring to mind:
-How fast does this thing go square to the wind? (assuming that they didn't have a near perfect angle - 110/120 degrees?? - all the time)
-If you scaled this gigantic craft up even larger, would it just go even -GASP!- faster? (assuming it would hang together )
-Are the foils starting to cavitate? (sorry, I just had to ask... )

I read an article years ago by an Aussie Hobiecat sailor who hitched a ride on one of those big French tri,s for a transatlantic race. He said thay were total crazy B....ards. 30knots plus average speed at night in total darkness, couldn't see the waves and if you had to get out on the trampolines to do something it was like somebody aiming a firehose at you.

Granted it's about 1,000 m2 but I don't think that's a square kilometre. I have a feeling that's 1,000m X 1,000m or 1,000,000 m2

Whatever their sail size they went further than I can in 24 hours.... but ratio the sail sizes and I have done a scaled 43 846 kms in 24 hours.... don't think it will be recognized though

Yeah, I think you're right Decrepit. I should have known better than to repeat something from a yachting mag.

This thing is fanging in light air. After about 5.00min some 40+ footage, the sea state doesnt look that bad. checkout the rudders on the outriggers - pretty small! I would love to know their profile. assy?

Also note the curved "lifting" daggerboards - keeps the wave piercing bows up so it reduces pitchpoling.
