Just wondering how the gpstc admin check files.
Realspeed .ka72.v6 because they all calculate things differently especially the alpha.
I only ever use ka72 like everyone else i know in Brisbane.
My pb alpha is 24 but in the v6 software its over 26.

Thats a very good question. Thanks for that AUS3333.

Decrepit and I use all the tools available to us, including RealSpeed V1.929 (has extra settings), GPSAR-Pro V5.11 and GPS-Results V5.40/V6.146, KA-72, Excel, GPS-Babel and others as required.

There is no such thing as the perfect analysis program. At least, not yet. They are all tripped up to some extent by various different types of errors.

When looking at normal clean files, we have found that all the programs get virtually identical results as they should. Some types of files or errors trip up different programs so often it is a case of using a few different ones to find what you are looking for. For instance, GPS-Results refuses to give a valid results if a single data point is missing. Not normally and issue, but it is with Canmore files which usually have a few points missing. You can get a result with the filters turned off but of course this opens up all sorts of other problems. GPS-Results is also default set to min speed 5 knots which will give a lower distance reading than the others unless you remember to adjust it. RealSpeed can't natively read .fit files and currently has a problem with 5hz Alpha files (Mal has agreed to fix that), but otherwise it can be configured to do lots of things the others can't. GPSAR-Pro is also very versatile and can also do some types of analysis that the others don't. KA-72 also gets very accurate results with clean files, especially those from the GT-31. But it can be upset by irregular erroneous files just like all the others.

But it's not always about the software. Experience and knowledge of the way GPS systems work is also important a lot of the time to point one in the right direction to solve a problem so we also consult with GPS experts and the software authors when we have issues we think they can help with.

It would be really nice to have Firebob's super computer, but there is still the old axiom with any computer: Junk in = junk out!!

AUS3333. I am happy to have look at your Alpha file if you want to send it to me.
