it really is gold.

4.5km of mirror like water and doesn't tend to suffer from rolling chop in close to the bank.

also has the classic arc shape to promote the bearaway.

the area of land from bundaberg to hervey bay would be removed.

i actually spoke with the epa about this a while back. james cook uni has done some modelling.

but lets stay positive.

I was only guessing the surge, hopefully it isn't anywhere near that, if it is then start sussing out the sand dunes

Have fun Bud

i'll be ok. i live near the gold coast.

back around 94 a cyclone came down to bundy and i went sailing at sunny coast. about 3 hrs south.

i needed a 3.5m sail and there was a 1.5m tidal surge where i was.

i can't believe how quiet the bom is about this beast.

Hardie, Its easy to find Burrum Heads. Qantas midnight flight from Perth to Sydney, then direct flight from Sydney to Fraser Coast (Hervey Bay) where you will be met by local mob(sters) for the senic 20 minute drive to Burrum.
After introducing you to the towns population, 5mins, you then put on your boardies and hit the speed strip. Sail for 4hrs then return home. EASY AS.
Why not plan a trip over for the week end 28-29 March and join 30-40 speedsters for the event.

As an old sailor once said: If your not living life on the edge then you are taking up to much room.

And Hardie, those boardies definately don't need to go over the top of your wetsuit either.

Currently TC 'Hamish' is 600km north of Mackay and all we're getting so far is heaps of rain and a few squalls. Maybe it'll clean up if it goes further south.

bushfires, earthquakes, cyclones... somethings going on!
Looks like there are some pretty high tides over the next couple of days, I hope the cyclone moves further offshore. good luck guys.

just looking at the station data for flinders reef, 80 knots was the average wind, not the gusts.

1pm was 83 knots.

Hi Guys,

Burrum speed strip has me puzzled

My bro lives down the road in Hervey Bay & has been unable to go out in his boat to fish most of this Summer as the it blows SE 30 knots everyday.

But where are the GPS speeds
With this much wind you would expect to see 40+ knot speeds being posted somewhere

simple answer is that the guys capable of doing over 40 knots live in brisbane.

and yes it has been blowing for weeks there.

"30 knots every day"????????? someones dreamin
Our most used sail this season has been 7.5m give or take a metre ie 10-18 kn and averaging 4 sailable days a week
Only twice have we got to use a 5.8m
and 2days of 4.7m

I'm Puzzled Icesurf, I thought all of NZ had already moved here, what are you doing over there when your brothers trying to powerboat here near a cool (but warm) sailing spot?

Its been a pretty crap summer for wind here in QLD. There is a custom spot for Burrum in Windguru, just search for it. Some guys went to Burrum today, fingers crossed XX. The speed challange should be in the Windy season, but this season I dont think has been normal

its where i'd like to be at the moment- its the conditions we'v been waiting for to use burrum. If we dont see 40knots+ from at least 4 of the guys that hav gone up i'll be disappointed. Question is will it still be there for the speed comp 2 weeks after it gets hit by a cyclone?

The sand banks will still be there, I don't think that's going to be a problem.

The real concern is going to be flotsam drifting down river in two weeks time if we get a lot of rain this week.
