The Vic's have SP, WA have several spots, the SA guys have their spot and you guys have that. I wonder if we will ever find anything in NSW like that

Dare I say Sunday/Monday looks good for Sandringham at the present....

There are many coastal rivers in NSW which could have great speed runs, depending on the tide and wind direction. From these forum I have learned the Clarence and Macleay rivers have good runs at Yamba and Stuarts Point respectively.

The Nambucca River would be great if they digged out the sand. I used to sail there when younger and there were some great runs. Unfortunately its all silted up now.

I reckon there might be some good runs on the Myall Lakes but I haven't been there. Not sure about south coast rivers either.

Our best speed spots have ONSHORE wind. Enuf said. The only exposed sandbar we have is Pt Walter, but the wind comes over a big hill with a cliff and then a yacht club with only a few hundred metres fetch before the sand bar. So if you like 2 seconds of 25kts wind followed by 20 seconds of 12kts, its great

What about ducth inn on the leeward side of the groin, hit that at full speed at least a 1 or 2 sec run on dead flat water

Apologies to the sand gropers but I thought Hardies, Woodman Pt, etc were all pretty good flat water speed spots.
Compared to what we have in Sydney you guys are laughing.
Maybe thats why somebody should post what their local spot is actually like.
Id like to know what other spots are like so if you ever visited you would have an idea.

Hardies is on-shore, the only thing that keeps it flattish is medium tides and seagrass, which means you need small weed fins, so the potential is always limited, on the best day ever when everything was perfect a 41kt was achieved at Hardies. Woodmans Point is a Kite-surfing venue, so you gotta be careful to keep everything safe there. Not many other places. We're looking all the time, much better for wavesailing in WA than speedsailing.

i reckon we(wa) can lay claim to the best mogul track in oz!! be hard to beat melville in a winter front for sheer ankle/knee work out.

Thought I'd throw this one in Larko. Been watching it on Google Earth for a couple of years now but we haven't had any westerlies to give it a go. The wind channels on down there a treat so it could be fun.

We have lot's of wind consistently and regularly, that's why we do so well, and yes we probably have better spots than sydney, however when compared to sandy point and what burrum heads has, WA doesn't have spots like that.

This winter will be interesting coz we get our strongest winds in winter, we'll see if 41kts is broken? There's also a few of us that wanna crack 40 so we'll see what happens? Most of us now have good sails, boards and fins, which we didn't have last year, so there's gonna be one depressed puppy if 40 isn't cracked this winter

Gday ka 43,what is the 'st geoges sailing club speed strip' like? did some of the cockroach guys pull 41's and 42's there last november 23rd? or where they at Sandy that day?
if so how often does this strip get to fire?

The boys were at the speed strip at Sandringham. Ive only sailed there once this season and hurt my knee again so there are lots of fella's that sail there all the time that can describe it better. From what Ive seen you sail upwind until you get underneath a low sandspit that runs for a decent distance although nowhere near the Pit or Burrum, we wish!!!!!!! It has lots of poles, boats and other hazards too.
Sam P and the lads have got lots of over 40's there. It works from SW to S.

That spot is on Port Hacking down Cronulla way. Not easy to get to but if the wind is right and the water isn't too shallow it should be very quick but time will tell.

The Sandringham spot (Pelican Point on the map) is only worth getting to in SSW at really low tide. The fastest bit of the run isn't the really flat water near the sand spit as that's a little beam reachy but the end of the run where you head off the wind to go broad. You're running over increasing chop but you can get some nice fast bursts before you have to do some sort of gybe as the oyster leases and banks get closer.

Frantic 2 second squirts are all the spot is good for but it can get some nice ones. Boss Man hit 41.5 and I did a 42.9 in November.

Sunday and Monday looked good for SSW from the forecast with low tides early morning but the forecast has gone a bit sour today but it's still a few days away so who knows.

If you call 150m a decent distance that is Larko. Still, it's the best we've got.
Sam next Westerly I'm there mate!!! I've seen the same spot and thought the same thing. Might have to do a recon there soon to check it out. Do you thin k it would be possible to get to from the nth side or do you think you'd need to launch from Maianbar?

Lets start thinking big. Maybe we should lobby the government to amend the construction process for the Desal pipeline. Instead of burying it in a trench we should request that it be built as a floating structure.



Then we would have so many fantastic options for speed courses irrespective of the wind direction (and we would piss off the jetskiers too).

How do you put googlearth pictures in this message box? Anyway the best sail I had in 4 weeks in WA was here 24deg 54' 01.73 S
113deg 38' 40.72 E

in the Gascoyne River mouth. Nice bumps in the middle but in a ssw seabreeze there's a good 200 m or so very flat run to the Nor east from this point. Flat batteries in my GPS, but I'm sure some of you WA guys could clip 40 here on your way to Gnarloo.

Took me a while to figure it out but in the end it's quite easy.

Step 1./ Save the image you want to your computer. On google you click file then save, then image and choose the location.
Step 2./ In photos section of Seabreeze click on upload image then follow steps.
Step 3./ Open image in photos section and just under the photo it says 'Want this image in the forums? Use this code'. Copy and paste the code in your post where you want the image to appear.

The've already ripped the park apart at Kyeemagh(end of bestic St) in preparation.

Lets hope the're not doing the kyeemagh end when the NEers start comming through again in Sept. Looks like we already doomed for any Southerlies during winter.

Yep, they are putting a carpark where the park was South of the C-Side, and are converting the old carpark into the construction facility.

I dont think it will be too bad until the "moving exclusion zone" is set up, it will take quite a while for it to pass through the BAF sailing area.

this is one we will be trying in winter when the Sou-westers pump
