Today I heard some great news, and I am quite excited about it!

An automated weather station is being built right now at Yanakie, only a few Km's from Shallow Inlet. It should be in operation fairly soon. No idea what that actually means.............

It will be maintained by the BOM and readings will be available through the normal BOM services.

I gather it is on Pridhams farm on the Prom Road. You may have seen an airstrip and hanger a couple of Km's north of Yanakie village. That appears to be the location. From what I remember it is on a fairly open flat part of the isthmus and should give wind readings comparable with the Inlet, especially with Easterlies. I would expect it to read a bit lower than the PiT in WSW but maybe not a lot less. Time will tell. The anemometer will be on a 10m tower which should reduce the ground effect quite a lot.

Now all we need is on somewhere near Millicent or Lake George! The is NOTHING within hundreds of KM's of it! The weather station run by the SE Surface Water on the lake seems to be calibrated for something other than actual wind speed...........

Andrew, didn't you see my post on Hardies post comparing SP vs LG?

The SA goverment has a weather buoy/station in the middle of LG.
you can link to it here

https://apps.waterconnect.sa.gov.au/SiteInfo/Default.aspx?site=A2391078#Summary

Then click on current data and you'll get all the info you need . They even have the wind stats for the last 5 years.

Also the BOM marine has a reasonable wind forecast map for Beachport.

Looks like 25Knots from 10am to 4pm Monday.

Opps! My mistake. I found the manual Robe reports but I missed the automated station. The readings from that station seen to be similar to what we had at LG on Jan 6th, which means it could be quite useful.

I have been watching the Weather buoy in Middle lake for the last year but I still maintain it is pretty useless for wind.

Maybe, but it looks a bit iffy to me. At this stage I will be staying home.

The gradient is southerly on the very front of the high. Cloud cover is forecast by some models and it won't be that hot. I doubt there will be much of a thermal boost.

Can confirm that its operational now - which means that real-time data is flowing in to the Bureau. There will be a period of testing before it appears on the public website.

Thanks for that AB. Any word on how long the test period will be and when the data will be up?
