On the weekend I managed a PB of 26.3 on my Ezzy6.3SE with a JP110xcite and a standard fin(JP 34 freeride), pretty much over powered in about 25knts(28 gusts) of wind.
Earlier in the day in 18knts of wind with a NP-Hellcat 7.7 on the same board with a 40cm fin, I had done what I though was my fastest time of the day, which was 25.7 (at that time would have translated a PB fo me).
Realisticaly how much faster can I expect the wave sail to go? Would changing over to an equivalent sized freeride - (say a 6.2 Hellcat for arguments sake) effect my top speed compared to my 6.3 ezzy wave sail?
Looking at some speed tables, and I'm just looking at the 30knt - 25knt range, I don't see any wave sails being used.

My speed PB of over 35 knots was set on a 5m Ezzy Wave SE...

Despite having 'proper' slalom sails now I haven't managed to beat it.

I think that sails aren't a big part of the speed equation, board width and fin shape have a lot more effect.

I have only managed to do a fraction of a knot faster on my cammed speed sail than my Ezzy SE Wave (5.0) - thats was on a bump and jump board with a wave fin as well.

Maybe those ezzy waves are fast

But the cammed speed sail feels much better and more stable, I think its me thats holding the equipment back. Also being in the right spot at the right time helps.

spotty has knocked out a 41knot peak on his KA Kaos wave sail.

he's also done a few 40+ knot runs on the KA Koyote no cam freeride sail.

of course the KA koncept is capable of doing 50 knots.

Given enough wind and the ability to hang on, there is no reason why one can't go very fast on a wave or no cam Freeride sail.
Flat water + really strong wind + 130 degrees off the wind = FAST!

My PB with a 3.7 KA KOAS on a Starboard Acid 74 with standard fin is a peak of just over 40 knots:

It is definitely possible to go very quick on wave sails.
We had a good demo 3 weeks back when we got a top sailor on his wave sails and gave him a gps and a modern fin.
Sailor was Dale Muller an ex kiwi wave sailing champ (10 times +) and a guy who is a sailing legend in NZ.
He was using his 15 year old 8'8" slalom board and wave sails of his own manufacture (nearly as old).
Sailing spot was Lake Clearwater, our local high country, high wind lake and it was 30-40 knots, very gusty and a long way from flat water.
He got peaks of 38+ knots on both 5.0 and 4.6 rigs, tried our race rigs and didn't like them, particularly the way they couldn't be feathered to knock speed off when you needed to, for control.
He was sure he would remain faster on RAF wave sails.
I have no doubt that if he put time into it and had flat water he would be doing 40 knots before too much longer.
Very interesting getting the impressions of such a good sailor and one who really understands sails, having operated Taranaki Sail Co for many years.
