How do they handle 6-10" chop ? Do they go upwind well and not spin out? Are they suited for intermediate riders and what's the smallest they make?

I've been using the UFO 50 degree weed fins almost exclusively since February. I've got the 20cm for use on the W49 Speed Board and the 26 for use on the Naish SP95 (59cm wide). I can't comment on the Tribals as I haven't used them.

I've found these two fins a real breakthrough for my sailing confidence. I don't believe they point as well as some of my other fins, however, they exude confidence in the chop. I've been comfortably using the 20cm with a 7m sail on the speed board. It lets me get into the shallows at Primbee but still handles the deeper water chop, even when overpowered. On a bearaway, I've only had a few "moments" where the fin has lost grip but then re-gripped very quickly. Didn't even have time to ease the power. This was using a 5.8 in 30+kts and 30cm chop, speeds above 38kts.

Across the wind I can really crank on the fin with confidence. I've had a few 30kt+ nauti's on what have been beam reaching conditions and significant chop (ie. getting full air whilst well overpowered and still landing powered up with grip). On bearaways, I think I've gained nearly 2kts in speed due to the combination of smaller size and confidence compared to my previous Unifiber Weed, BP Weed Speed (40 and 50) and BP Kestral fins. I have an 18cm on order, based on how I've been able to use a 7m with the 20cm.

The 26cm is similarly my "go to" fin for the slalom at Primbee. I've now got a 24cm on order for the same reason as above.

I used both of these fins at LG this year with zero weed issues. The benefits of the 50 degree at Primbee is that you can scrape the bottom either when beach starting or at speed without much issue.

I love my FF but I'm looking for other maybe faster options for those epic days ( although I've found the Fangys pretty darn fast for me.. ).
Upwind and grip/ confidence inspiring in the chop are my main priorities..If I can't get to the top of the run or I'm not game to go for it I won't get decent speeds..

Pointing wise, the 26cm is probably slightly worse than the Unifiber FWD 25cm and BP40 25cm but better than BP50 25cm, what I gain most is in spin-out resistance above 35kts.
The 20cm points better than 17cm Kestral or MUF Delta 18cm on the speed board and has way more composure in chop and at high speed. Feels less draggy than those two as well.

My small ufo's (18 & 20 nudies) are great at getting upwind in overpowered and bumpy conditions, plenty of grip when getting hammered, and feel secure in speed runs, I hope to use them more this next year but also still really like the other small weed fins in my fin bag, everyone's got their favourites. I found the bigger ufo sizes very comfortable to ride for long distances in weedy water like at LG this year.

Are you kidding? Don't even think about it. That is just not an appropriate combination for LG for you where depth is just not an issue.

In any case, if you are using a 7m sail at LG, you may as well be using any old boat anchor, as it is not a performance combination there for you anyhow, it's just a fun cruise.

It's like the old saying. You can have efficiency/speed, or you can have easy/safe. Take your pick. If you cant get upwind, you need efficiency, and if that does not work with an appropriate fin, don't blame your gear, work on your skills.

I think you are on a quest to find a Unicorn.

Sue I used my 24/50 ufo with a 7m at LG for the distance sailing, its quite a big fin in feel compared to the 20. Not sure if your initial questions in this thread were related to fins for super shallow weedy water like at budgie and primbee or the deeper weedy water at LG, but overall Ive had similar experiences to what Jetlag has described on the ufo's.

Now the 7m with a small weed fin question, thats a red herring chasing a unicorn, and there is a fin for the job handcrafted in Nowra, but you have to find the right rainbow.

I was hoping for a performance fin that could do the lot but I suppose that is expecting a bit much..
I was hoping I could use it at Budgy , LG / Primbee but 20cm is getting a bit deep for Budgy.
Ideally an 18cm that could hold the 80ltre with a 5.7m or smaller setups..
Sounds like if I get one it will be a splurge for the rare occasions I sail powered up in deeper water - LG - Primbee..
