It almost looks like a fake mock-up. If they can sail it, those rigs are going to overlap a LOT and the front guy looks like he would be quite cramped. Not to mention it must be bugger to get started.... Water starting our tandem speed board is really hard with larger sails (5.8m and up) because of the overlap, and it is 10'8" long (325cm). If I was designing a new speed tandem I would not go much, if any shorter than 300-315, maybe a bit wider, but I think I would put a significant step in the tail.

Hmmmm.... It does not look that long in the photos.....

They would be about the right dimensions for a speed tandem though.....

Any ideas what '8 foot stage' refers to?

'Have a feeling "8 foot stage" may be referring to the rocker; 8 foot staged rocker?

i.e. the rocker has 2 different stages (rocker curves) with one ending and the other beginning at 8 feet from the nose or tail of the board?

This is just a feeling; I vaguely recall reading about staged rockers in articles reviewing the latest surfboards from shapers, mind you, this was way back when I was a teenaged surf nut.

This is my writing with a translation from my topic on www.windsurfing44.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=223

8 footstraps is better.

Alta vista translation:
"The brothers Moussilmani, Sylvain and Benoît, will try to beat the world records of speed out of tandem with Luderitz with a F2 tandem shapé by Patrick Diethelm (3.25m X 50cm, 150/170 liters and 11/12 kgs, 8 footstraps, aileron Deboichet SL1 upwind 24 with 32cm). Preceding record is of 35.06 nodes, in 1986 in Sotavento by Bertin and Griessemann."

OK Kato. We have a target!!! Lets do it!!! We know we can beat that!

Apparently a quote from the Moussilmani brothers: (Alta Vista Translation)
"In our eyes, the spot of Lüderitz gathers all the extreme conditions which the riders seek to once more push back our limits and that of our sport. Namibia is a very been windy country, its littoral is entirely adapted to receive a private attempt at hunting for the records. The wind prevailing is reinforced each afternoon by a heating effect of with the hottest desert of the world. The difference of temperature ground and sea is exceptional, that proposes to us extreme conditions of wind, ideal for hunting for the records individual and out of tandem. Our primary goal is to pass the mythical bar of the 50 nodes and to beat the world speed records on l' water all confused series. Our second objective is to explode the world records out of tandem held by Bertin and Griessemann, and to pass the bar of the 40 nodes in tandem."

I am certain that our tandem has 40 knots in it in the right conditions with the right fin. Hmmm.... need to get the right fin.

That must be pretty old because all three Moussilmani brothers have been on Starboard for the last [2009] euro season.

Some years back Lindsay from SA Sailboards had a tandem in the shop, i was lucky enough to borrow and ride it several times, fantastic fun, i had lots of fun with several different "crew" Mark Paterson being the most memorable! and a (then) young Lady being the most regular.
always regretted not buying it for myself but how much gear can you have !!

it you get the chance to have a go ... DO it....
