Sweet road trip to Stansbury

Caught up with Jeff down by the caravan park and rigged up with a solid breeze blowing, never been to Stansbury before but there's nice lawn to rig up on and showers to wash down after sailing.Jeff filled me in on any hazards and one required me to wear booties for the first time in years and that is "razor fish" come across my first one walking out and I stepped on it to see how strong they were but crumble with ease under foot which put my mind to rest.

What a sweet place to sail the spit/weed beds are mirror image of Lake George and cover a very large area(read huge) with the tide being low there was about a foot of water over this area with a smaller enough fin you could run through it but high tide is ideal.The beauty about this place is that you can sail all day regardless of the tides from mildy choppy to ultra flat water.Unfortunately I never got to run the weed beds because the wind back off when the tide come up but I did get some good runs in the small chop and had one major dismount half a K out which broke my RDM carbon extension and put a nice kiss mark on the bottom of my AB54 but no problem simply walked back only waist deep, sailed out 4 Km and I could still touch the bottom, I was under done most of the day too small a sail/fin board but was ok with this setup in the squalls.


Got to thank Jeff for showing me the area and will definetly be back 40+ speeds with ease over the weed
In the video Jeff is using a 5.3 sail and he's running just over the edge of the spit/weed beds which are upwind to his right, nice

Jeff said that over summer they get nice SSE seabreezes and strong hot northerlies

Got a mate at Roxby so its only 5 hrs

Yes, in the summer you can get a week of southerlies with the sea breeze picking up as the tide comes in in the afternoon. On a normal tide its best to get there around lunchtime and sail the flatter water inside the exposed spit waiting for the tide to cover the spit before going out on it for a blast. About half an hour of flat water with the tide coming in quite quickly turning it to chop which is still good fun for a few hours then head out into the bay for bump and jump.
The strong northerlies create the opportunity to better your fastest times out on the spit and courage is required as razor fish are just beneath your fin tip, so falling off is normal but not recomended at 40knots.
Can't wait to see Choco and others in SA Speed Demons out there.

Hey Jeff,

Tuesday looks good and i can have day off if required.

Just had a look on the chart and low tide is 1meter at midday, perfect but the wind is forecast North at 20 knots early( needs to be stronger) so will keep an eye on it hoping for stronger as Tuesday nears.

I have rubber soaled booties - not solid hard rubber are they okay with razor fish?

Yes Carl, soft booties are ok. If its looking ok i,ll call Tricky and Pete as well.
