I make my own, but if I was going to buy one I'd get a tribal.

It is going to depend on your location and the type of weed you are dealing with. If it is a shallow weed spot you are most likely going to need a delta if not you can usually get away with a weed fin with less rake. The less rake you need to clear the weed the closer to performance of a normal fin you can get.

What location do you need it for.

I use BPWS 50 and they're awesome. Very quick and don't let go. I sail with them in heavy weed. I also have a 30cm version I use in the deeper water with mild chop.

I've found the tribals don't shed weed when I'm on and off the plane ( NSW) ..think they are better suited to WA. I do think he makes a few versions so maybe get one with more rake if you sail NSW type weed..

Slowy doesn't sail in our heavy weed spots, so most of the tribals are meant for the odd floating bits of weed. Not trawling through dead flat heavy weed. The guys here that do sail our shallow water, heavy weed spots have reboxed them to more rake, with great success. There is a "super weedy" though, but I'm not sure what rake that is.
Have to agree Sue, when asking about weed fins these days, you need to specify what type of weed.
When somebody doesn't specify, I just assume they're talking about the old standard weed fin, designed for deep water, with the odd bits of weed floating in it.

I'm quite partial to the Gun Sails 'Weed Control' series which carries a 50 degree rake from some pretty serious weed cutting.

Yep I'm talking about Canton beach - thick seagrass and other assorted mat type weed..a bit under the water but in the top end it's thick when dredging..At least that was what it was like a year or so ago when I tried that fin.

Great fins, I have 3 but you will brake the tips off if you use them in shallow waters like Primbee or Peel street.

Makani Fins are starting Slalom, Carbon Weed Fins, apparently they are great...not 100% speed sailing, but apparently very fast. It's custom order and probably expensive did not ask more, I'm in a cast for the next 6 weeks(busted calf muscle) so don't won't to torture too much...will see.

Tribal do a SuperWeed fin with more rake. Not used one be seen one and looks real good.
Search the Tribal site for sizes and options. My WeedSpeeds are great.
And priced well within budgets too!
