With Al Greens Sandy Point Fortnight Speed Gathering getting close it looks promising for wind on the first few days. It's too early to be sure but we are definitely looking at a more vigorous Spring weather pattern now compared with a month ago.
Lots of strong Westerlies forecast for Friday 26th Sept through to Monday 1st October. Chances are good there will be periods where the wind will veer towards the ideal WSW angle. Looking at the model data, those periods may be fairly small windows of opportunity. Lets hope they line up with favorable tides.

Should be an interesting 2 weeks for the GPS Challenge as most of the Pit crew will be there,a few from WA and QL and all on the same patch of water.Bring on the wind.

Maybe the pit crew can finally show what they're made of?

Anyone else remember them talking smack at the start of the challenge, about how the competition would be so unfair because they'd kick everyone's butts?

BOM forcasts:

Thursday: West/southwesterly winds 15/20 knots tending northwesterly during the morning then increasing to 20/30 knots during the afternoon and possibly reaching 35 knots in the south.
Friday: Northwest/southwest winds 30/40 knots.
Saturday: West/southwesterly winds 30/40 knots

There should be plenty of wind around!

Should be all gone by Monday arvo though!

Central Coast, Cape Otway to Wilsons Promontory:

Friday: Westerly wind 30/40 knots increasing 35/45 knots during the morning.
Saturday: West/southwesterly winds 25/35 knots easing to 20/30 knots then tending west/northwesterly later.

East Coast, Wilsons Promontory to 60nm east of Gabo Island:

Friday: Northwest winds 20/30 knots possibly reaching 35 knots offshore in the west during the morning. Wind tending more west/northwesterly during the afternoon, strengthening to 25/35 knots, locally reaching 40 knots offshore.
Saturday: West/southwest winds 20/30 knots tending west/northwesterly.

Still looks very iffy that we will get much, if any WSW that we like best.

Hi Hardie. It's been very windy over here Friday. 30-40 gusting 50 all day, but out of the NW to WNW, and a huge high tide most of the day.
We were hoping for a slight swing to the WSW this morning (Sat)and all the guys were pumped for a dawn patrol but the wind has died and is still WNW now at 6.30AM. 8 degrees outside too!!!

Well didn,t go as planned,the wind at dawn was patchy and light with lots of rain(which we need) with only the Pit Crew looking half interested in sailing.Matt was first on the water and planning so John and I joined him on the N/W bank together with Sam(Nsw)A bit lumpy/bumpy but enough to get some 30kt ave(Game on).Had a big off over the front at 32kt/0 resulting in braking the top batten with my heal and then shreading the top sailing back.A bit of stichy back needed.The tide ended chasing us out.The good news is the weight jacket worked really well.The next wind due wednesday in time for Slowy and Vando.

The Sunday session was a bit of a wash out for some of us, with 6m being too big and too small, and too big, and too small and too big.... the direction being NW.

Two broken booms and some fins chunks, with Daffy showing off his local knowledge of sand bars by hitting one at full speed. Not to be outdone, Pierre tried to go one better!

I am in Melb tonight, will be in Sandy Point tomorrow, but wishing I brought down some extra gear that a mate offered.

Is any one travelling down from Brisbane to Sandy Point in the next week or so? I would love to see if some one could bring some gear for me during the week...
