Looking for a simple replacement for my Suunto Ambit 3 GPS watch - just want to be able to download a GPX file (to upload tracks to Google Earth) and see peak speed. Reliability in the water is also important.
My Suunto is on its last legs (worked great for 5 years) - probably overkill for what I need anyway.

I have been using a Timex Ironman GPS. The older one, not the later R300. I see a price of USD $76 on Amazon.

This watch is waterproof, has GPS, has about 6 hours of battery life when the GPS is collecting data, many days with GPS turned off. It has replaceable pin watchbands, saves data in FIT format that can be uploaded to the Timex Connect app and such sites as Strava. Strava also exports in GPX format. I use mine to see speed and distance and time of day out on the water. It collects and reports max speed, distance, duration, and other stuff when you review your workout. The uploaded files show the tracks on mapping software such as strava.

The Timex Connect app on a PC is also simple. It updates the ephemeris every time you connect. It also stores all your workouts in the cloud.

This watch is really simple. No wifi, no bluetooth, no heartrate, no oxygen, no touchscreen. Just basic GPS that works very well. The charging and data transfer is with a plain ole micro-usb cable. Nothing weird or proprietary.

Data are collected at a rate of one point per second. Error data may be collected, but are not displayed. I have done many side by side tests with this watch and a GW-60 while out windfoiling. You can overlay both tracks with very little difference.

Watch memory is sufficient to store dozens of sessions on the water. I archive all my sessions in strava, then delete the sessions on the watch to keep things clean.
